Densitron outlines new technology partnership with control systems pioneer SKAARHOJ

Densitron, the global leader in innovative Human Machine Interaction (HMI) and display technology, has announced details of a new partnership with SKAARHOJ. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, SKAARHOJ is a designer and manufacturer of control solutions for the broadcast market.

Founded by Kasper Skårhøj, SKAARHOJ has been producing broadcast control solutions since 2012. The company currently has around 30 hardware products (plus variants) in its line-up, including controllers for PTZ cameras, vision mixing, replay, RCP, utility and audio. All products use the same extendable software platform, UniSketch OS, while SKAARHOJ has partnered with other leading manufacturers in support of its strategy to enable integrated control with third-party systems.

It was this focus that prompted Densitron to contact SKAARHOJ in mid-2019 when it needed to realise an integration of its Intelligent Display System (IDS) solution with Blackmagic Design’s ATEM switcher as part of a project for a major internet company. The ease with which the SKAARHOJ controller was able to bridge the Densitron and Blackmagic Design systems led to a more general conversation between the two companies about the potential of a technology partnership.

Reuben Such, Global Business Development Director at Densitron, comments, “It soon became clear that there could be a real ‘value-add’ for both companies, especially in the area of remote or decentralised production. Current events have increased the demand for solutions that enable broadcast systems to be controlled remotely from other locations, and thanks to the internet company project we already have a two-way device driver that can be used with every SKAARHOJ product and replicate every button and function back into IDS.”

The first specific application revolves around the integration of IDS with SKAARHOJ’s PTZ Fly, which is a joystick controller that allows users to pan, tilt and rotate cameras. In combination with IDS, notes Such, “it would be possible for, say, an IDS solution in a studio in London to control cameras located in a facility in Dubai. Customer enquiries of that sort are increasing all the time, and so we envisage a lot of potential for this partnership in remote control applications involving the studio and gallery environments.”

Kasper Skårhøj, CEO of SKAARHOJ, adds: “Forming partnerships with other technology innovators has been integral to our strategy of providing control solutions that give broadcasters the flexibility to work the way they want to. Increasingly, this is involving more flexible use of studios and remote working practices, and for these reasons we believe our partnership with Densitron and its IDS solution has tremendous potential.”

On October 20, the two companies will discuss their partnership and the integration of IDS with SKAARHOJ control products in a free-to-view webinar. For more details and to register, please visit:
