Grass Valley and NEP UK to Showcase the Power of IP at IBC 2019

Grass Valley and NEP’s UK division will collaborate at IBC 2019 to demonstrate the strength of IP infrastructures in outside broadcast (OB) production environments. NEP UK's Ceres truck will be on display at the Grass Valley booth (9.A01) at the RAI, Amsterdam giving IBC visitors a unique opportunity to get inside this benchmark all-IP OB truck and learn first-hand how Ceres is optimized to deliver the high levels of scalability and flexibility that are critical to today’s live production environments. Commonly used at major events, sports fixtures and other large-scale productions, NEP Ceres is built on open standards, featuring SMPTE ST2110 connectivity throughout the truck.

As consumers demand high-quality anytime, anywhere content, broadcasters and production companies must respond with rich, immersive viewing experiences that are as good as being there – on any device. At the heart of Ceres stands Grass Valley’s Kahuna production switcher, with its signature multi-format capabilities offering creative power irrespective of production format. Whether HD or UHD, SDI or IP, HDR or SDR or hybrid environments, Kahuna ensures no compromise on creativity or quality.

Visitors to IBC 2019 will be able to see Ceres operating with Grass Valley's range of native LDX 86N 4K cameras and award winning Creative Grading solution, which unleashes even more creative potential by giving shaders access to more functionality while still keeping operations intuitive and producing stunning quality images. Grass Valley's powerful live highlights and replay production system, LiveTouch, will also be onboard Ceres at the show.

"Efficient and resilient production workflows are essential to making content delivery smooth and seamless across a wide range of production formats. IP plays a critical role in ensuring this need is met, and this is the foundation that Ceres is built on,\" said Rob Newton, director of engineering and technology, NEP UK & Ireland. "We have a longstanding relationship with Grass Valley, having collaborated on several exciting projects in the past – the team understands our needs and we know it is unmatched in delivering the reliable and robust solutions we demand. We’re delighted to collaborate with Grass Valley at IBC to demonstrate how open standards-based IP can transform OB environments to support customers’ needs today and tomorrow."

NEP Ceres is also home to a wide range of Grass Valley technology, including MV-820-IP Multiviewers, UHD-1100 KudosProProcessors, IQ Modular, Audio Live and the Vega Router for SDI routing which will all be operative during the show. All the core IP processing in the truck is also handled by Grass Valley solutions, supported by COTS switching from Arista.

“The OB sector is a real beneficiary of the uptick in IP deployments as this way of working helps to reduce weight, increase scale and provide format agnostic future proofing to support 4K UHD/HDR. At Grass Valley we pride ourselves on delivering tailor-made IP solutions that meet customers’ specific needs and provide them with the ability to tell powerful stories,\" commented Mark Hilton, vice president, live, Grass Valley. "We look forward to demonstrating our partnership with NEP UK at IBC 2019 to show visitors how IP-based OB infrastructures are helping to manage increasingly complex productions and leading broadcasters towards the future of flexible live UHD HDR production.”
