Sony is delighted to announce its support to BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity that harnesses the power of media and communications to help reduce poverty, improve health and improve the response to humanitarian crises.

Joining BBC Media Action’s Corporate Leaders Group, alongside Facebook, Twitter and Adobe to name a few, Sony is underlining its long-term commitment to the charity by supplying production equipment to programme makers in their projects across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Together with access to Sony´s professional camcorders and our latest new cloud-based virtual production platform, BBC Media Action is offering on-the-ground training and mentoring to programme makers and presenters. The aim is to empower communities around the world to document and share what they see and hear – and help people make changes that can improve their lives.

As well as creating their own media content to inform and educate local communities, BBC Media Action will be able to share their stories with the wider world through broadcast, digital and online platforms.

“We are delighted to support this incredibly valuable initiative,” says Barbara Rosseel, Responsible for Corporate & Social Responsibility for Media Solutions at Sony Professional Europe. “As experts in content creation, management & distribution, at Sony we believe in the unique power of images to share ideas, shape opinions and deliver real, lasting change. BBC Media Action provides a powerful platform for individuals and communities to find their voice and share it with the world. It’s a privilege for us to broaden this dialogue even further by offering what we can to help enrich opportunities, reduce inequalities and transform lives.”

Mike Wells, who has helped shape this partnership at BBC Media Action, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Sony and are grateful for their generous support which will enable us to provide professional standard camera equipment to staff working in some of the poorest countries in the world. Communication is aid and this equipment will enable us to produce creative new content to help people most in need.”

About BBC Media Action

BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. Their overarching goal is to help people make sense of events, engage in dialogue and take action to improve their lives through the power of media. Their projects reached over 200 million people last year and are made up of debate shows, dramas, radio and TV programmes, public service announcements, mobile phone services and face-to-face communication. Since they are not funded by the licence fee, none of this work would be possible without the backing of our generous donors – governments, foundations, corporations and individuals.
