PlayBox Neo HD Playout with eMAM Go Live at TV5HD Thailand Posted: 30/06/2022
PlayBox Neo HD Playout with eMAM Go Live at TV5HD Thailand

PlayBox Neo and EMAM, Inc announce the completion of a fully integrated playout and media asset management system for Thai TV5 at the network's studio headquarters in Bangkok. The project encompassed the replacement of a legacy third-party equipment with a solution designed to combine high operational efficiency, reliability and scalability.

"The system we proposed in Q1 and have now completed is based on PlayBox Neo AirBox Neo-20 Channel-in-a-Box systems," says David Srikalra, Managing Director of PS & Sons (Thailand) Co Ltd. "These successfully power a large number of television channels and playout services here in APAC and around the globe. We also recommended EMAM Inc as the vendor for content management storage. EMAM products integrate easily with AirBox Neo-20, enabling operators to archive programs and interstitials complete with fast-searchable descriptive metadata. They are deployed in the master control room used for the HD channel."

Timeline TV chooses Custom Consoles Module-R Desks for Ealing Broadcast Centre PCR 1-3 and SCR 2 Posted: 30/06/2022
Timeline TV chooses Custom Consoles Module-R Desks for Ealing Broadcast Centre PCR 1-3 and SCR 2

UK-based technical services provider Timeline Television Ltd has chosen eight Custom Consoles Module-R desks for integration into the newly completed Production Control Rooms 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and Sound Control Room 1.2 at its recently opened Ealing Broadcast Centre.

"Custom Consoles technical furniture has a well-deserved reputation for robust build quality and ergonomic excellence," says Timeline CEO Daniel McDonnell. "Back in mid 2021, we specified desks from the Module-R series for a video production gallery, MPX suite and audio control studio. Module-R gives us the freedom to select the design parameters we need from a standard set of modules. This is price-efficient and allows relatively fast delivery. We also appreciate the ability to modify or expand the desks to match future workflow. Module-R was the logical choice for the three new PCRs and for SCR 2. Once again, Custom Consoles were able to install promptly and effectively."

The Future of Broadcast Technology
Manfred Reitmeier

Now that OTT and VOD have become more mainstream, many commentators talk about traditional broadcast methods, like terrestrial transmission, being a thing of the past. With so many new platforms and non-traditional content services carving out a growing slice of the market, you can be forgiven for thinking that linear over-the-air television is on its way out. The reality is that the industry must strike a balance between meeting consumers’ shifting habits and the business and operational needs of content providers.

A switch in time: how KVM can unlock the future of broadcasting
Chris Smeeton

One of the major changes for broadcasters during the pandemic has been the shift towards remote production; by no means a new phenomenon in an IP environment, yet accelerated under lockdown to accommodate travel and gathering restrictions. A 2021 report found that almost 40% of broadcast professionals now employ remote production, up 9% on the previous year.

Cloud integration: The only way is up
Francois Vaillant

In 2017 we saw the introduction of SMPTE 2110 and since then, the transition to IP has emerged as a priority for broadcasters looking to streamline their operations, decrease their footprint and effectively integrate with an industry in a rapid state of flux. A 2020 survey by Devoncroft found that almost 20% of broadcasters had already deployed SMPTE 2110, and over 25% were planning to do so. Then came the pandemic, precipitating the need for on-the-fly collaboration and accelerating the transition to remote, virtual and cloud production.

Meeting the specification
Chris Smeeton

A good technical specification will detail precisely what is required, from the equipment to the cables connecting it. Many specifications will give  particular manufacturers and model numbers. On many occasions, this makes tendering simple and gives vendors a secure and fair way to bid.
