VIDEO SERVER + REMOTE CONTROL

BLT SMS-400+RUS COLOR

The BLT SMS-400 Super e-Motion Server is a 4 channel Hard Disk based Digital Recorder, with simultaneous recording and playback capability. It combines High Speed / Super Slow Motion Camera native interface (i.e. LDK-23 HS or BVP-9500 WS), advanced disk technology with a VTR style of control and user friendly operation together with BLT RUS remote unit.

The four channels are used as three video inputs to handle the High Speed / Super Slow Motion Camera signals (3 times faster: PAL 150 fields per second, NTSC 180) and one as simultaneous playback output channel. The recording mode can be set in loop-mode for endless recording, while Clip marking with write protection allows to save the relevant recorded segments (application: High Lights).
If not connected to a High Speed / Super Slow Motion Camera, the BLT SMS-400 is used as three simultaneous channel video recorder for multi-camera application, with playback capability while recording. Digital SDI or Analog Composite video formats are accepted for easy interface and channel by channel selectable, while output video is available as SDI, CVBS and Y,R-y,B-y Analog Component format.

The BLT SMS-400 adopts internal 4:2:2, processing with M-JPEG compression (like I-frame only MPEG scheme) with data rate up-to 50 Mbit/Sec per channel. The compression CODEC is used in Constant Quality mode, that is VBR (variable bit rate), for a better and efficient use of disk space. BLT SMS-400 uses 6 SCSI Hard Disk Drives in parallel, with a BLT proprietary array and operating system. The recording time storage, depending by HDD installed, is up to 7 hours per channel in multi-camera application.
The Video output is available in digital and analog format, with a dedicated monitor-output for superimposed on-screen information (Time Code, status and other). Stand alone operation or Gen. Lock through Black-Burst or CVBS. Furthermore, 6 mono Analog Audio inputs and outputs are included, together with Time Code LTC process (with XLR input and output).

The BLT SMS-400 Digital Recorder is housed in a 19" rack chassis, 5 U high and 48cm long, which include 6 SCSI 3"1/2 HDDs, fitted inside (either Full size 1.6" or SLIM 1"), with capacity of 36GB or 72GB available at present; provision is made for larger HDDs capacity when they will come available.
The BLT SMS-400 Digital Recorder is provided with one RS-422 serial port for remote control, as VTR style, using the BVW-75 protocol, with BLT extended commands for disk based operation.
The BLT SMS-400 is able to handle: up to 255 Clips mark (per channel), real time Clip protection, Sequence creation and edit, Recording loop, VTR control (Slow, FF, REW, Jog/Shuttle...), instant CUE-UP to any disk frame with CTL or Time Code reference, disk browse, still store....

The BLT SMS-400 is ready to be used with BLT RUS remote unit to obtain an user friendly system for live sport application. Furthermore, the RUS is able to control up to 4 devices, so even a 4 Super Slow Motion / High Speed multi-camera system (i.e. LDK-23 HS or BVP-9500 WS) can be handled by single operator.

RUS COLOR: REMOTE CONTROL PANEL

RUS Color (Remote Unit System) is specifically optimized for the professional end-user to provide the fast and efficent interface necessary for live sports applications: clip mark and management, sequences, Play-lists, High-Lights, multicamera, networking to share Clip datas and more over. It is designed to unleash the advanced capabilities of BLT VIDEO SERVER, while keeping it's user friendly operating characteristics. With the largest color LCD display of the category and 4 indipendent control ports, RUS-COLOR allows just a single operator to simultaneously or independently control up to 4 BLT Video Servers for instant highlight creation and live editing. On the top of this, RUS-COLOR, thanks to its compact size, fits into limited space available on OB-VAN.

Riedel and Germanys DFL Expand Their Cooperation

For the 2019/20 season, the Riedel Bolero S referee communications system will be used in all 306 2nd Bundesliga games and in the final 15 DFB Cup matches. As a result, league referees can experience all of the benefits that the 1st Bundesliga referees have already been enjoying for more than a year, including high-transmission security, significantly improved voice and sound quality, and guaranteed quality assurance from the Riedel Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Wuppertal. The ROC further expanded its capacity and equipment at the start of this season in order to provide sufficient space for the rapid expansion in remote management services.

Keeping the Show on the Road
Andy McKenzie There is long-established saying in the media business that, if something goes wrong, at least nobody dies. It is almost true unless you happen to be a TV producer suffering a cardiac arrest because your primary video feed has gone blank during a high-budget programme.

To Remotely Go - TVFutures
Michael Parsons One of my biggest concerns as an academic responsible for the education of hundreds of students is the ‘appropriateness’ of much of the technology we purchase and implement within the curriculum. The last few years have seen tremendous change in all sorts of technologies, and the broadcast industry is just one sector that has seen some significant leaps in innovation.

The Future of Broadcast Connectivity
Jamie Adkin The use of KVM equipment has been essential to meet the evolving needs of the broadcast industry for many years. Over that time, many in the industry have recognised the importance of using IP-enabled KVM to break down technological barriers and enable real-time access to visuals wherever and whenever they’re needed. These components are vital parts in live production environments in particular.

IP Technology for Broadcast Audio Routing Systems
Tom Knowles As the AoIP debate continues to confuse and delight in equal measure, what is clear is different scenarios require specific solutions. So is there a solution that encompasses open standards and existing proven AoIP technologies to the benefit of all?

State of the Nation - Getting Connected
Dick Hobbs - new We are all familiar with statistics about the growth of the internet. Cisco’s latest report, for instance, says that global IP traffic is increasing at 26% a year, and will reach 4.8 zetabytes a year by 2022. The number of connected devices will be three times the world’s population by the same date.

Undercover Remote Production
David Bradley

It’s only taken 20 years and it seems that Remote Production is finally coming of age, but it now requires far more cameras than anyone envisaged back in the last century!

The move to remote production is one of the unstoppable trends of 2019 and moving into 2020. Our CamBall cameras pioneered remote working as early as 2003 with sport and wildlife programming using remote production for many years with incredible results.

Keeping Pace with the Content Revolution
Kevin Fitzgerald These are uniquely challenging times for broadcasters and their technical teams. Not only are they having to negotiate the move to IP-based infrastructures and the introduction of new formats and techniques such as 4K and HDR, they are also having to generate more content than ever before to support OTT and web services as well as traditional linear broadcast.

Original KVM or KVM over IP
Jochen Bauer Will the technology used in broadcasting solely consist of IP devices? For years, IP has been entering all areas of life. Especially control room applications as they are typically deployed in broadcasting benefit from the IP revolution in many ways. But an “IP-only broadcast world” is not yet here. Nevertheless, the trend clearly moves towards IP transmission, even though a large part of content production still uses traditional transmission paths. And therefore we continue to live in a hybrid world, using both original and IP-based technology. KVM experts Guntermann und Drunck still rely on both original KVM and KVM-over-IP™ to be able to offer their customers the best of both worlds.

REVIEW Canon UJ111x8_3B UHD Lens
Andy McKenzie Shooting in ultra high definition and high dynamic range has become the preferred option for all television productions with a potentially long commercial life. The hir-ing charge and indeed the outright purchase cost of cameras of this standard are not significantly greater than those of high definition standard dynamic range models. With half the world's news reporters now able to capture UHD video on their mobile phones, why give the production crews anything less?
