PostmodernJukebox Keeps Swinging on YouTube

Pianist Scott Bradlee started PostmodernJukebox (PMJ) as a creative side project in the early days of YouTube and viral videos. Mixing modern pop hits with styles of the past, Bradlee and his musically inclined friends created a new phenomenon. A decade later, PMJ has grown to more than five million YouTube subscribers, which has earned them appearances on national television, along with a live audience following for their in-person performances. To keep the musical fun going strong, and easy to hear, PMJ relies on a large collection of DPA Microphones.

Ash Soan Uses Neve 88RLB Preamps To Capture The Sound of An Iconic Neve Desk

Neve’s classic 88RS console weighs around two tons and certainly doesn’t fit into most project studios, including the one owned by internationally acclaimed drummer Ash Soan. But when Ash wanted to capture the sound of this iconic desk on his recordings, he found a simple solution in the shape of two Neve® 88RLB mono mic preamps.

Philadelphia Meteorologist Returns to the Studio Sounding Better Than Ever

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, television and radio stations across the country scrambled to find ways to keep delivering the news while maintaining the health and safety of its employees. For Philadelphia’s NBC10 WCAU, that meant having their staff work from home. With this change in location, the station’s legendary meteorologist, Bill Henley, had to find an audio solution capable of delivering studio quality sound for his much-needed weather reports. Alpha Sound Selects DPA for Famed Cathedral AV Overhaul Posted: 21/04/2021
Alpha Sound Selects DPA for Famed Cathedral AV Overhaul

St. Mary’s Cathedral is one of the most popular and beautiful Catholic churches in the Portland area. It serves as its parish’s diocese, hosting weekly masses, services and sometimes daily visits for a large, devoted congregation. The church needed to ensure its audio-visual equipment could convey its important messages in a smooth, intelligible manner—something that was previously lacking due its domed cathedral and marble walls. When it came time for an AV upgrade, St. Mary’s turned to Alpha Sound, a leading AV installer in the Pacific Northwest. With 40 years’ experience, the Alpha Sound team was ready to tackle the live acoustical issues at the cathedral while also choosing equipment that would not impede the church’s elegant décor. To accomplish this, the installer selected more than 20 mics from DPA Microphones, the largest DPA install to-date in the area.

How to engage students with live projects
Martin Andrews For many employers, how and what we teach at university is sometimes considered to be very mysterious. The responsibility for creating the structure and content within the curriculum is the responsibility of academics. In my experience, the best method for making sure that students and staff are kept up to date with current working practices is to regularly engage with ‘Live’ projects and ‘Real’ clients.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

From Industry to Teaching
Charlie Watts

Those that cannot do, teach… I did not enjoy typing those words, and for the most part, I do not believe it to be true.

There again, I’m am now a teacher, so perhaps you would expect me to say that? I am sure many believe it to be true, that if you really cannot cut it in the ‘real world’, there might instead be a career in teaching. The following is for those of you that have ever considered changing careers and going into education to provide teaching and learning, or for those of you that think most teachers teach because they cannot do anything else. I hope it provides a little bit of an insight.
