Hawk-Woods Double The Magic Posted: 20/09/2012

Hawk-Woods have unveiled their new on-board power adaptor for the Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera.

Developed in association with James Tonkin of Hangman Studios; the Hawk-Woods adaptor has the ability to more than double the standard run-time of the camera whilst remaining compact, simple to use and quick to set up.

The Hawk-Woods DV-BMS uses the popular DV-F970 high discharge rate battery and steps-up the output to the cameras required 12v. Tests have shown an increase in run-time from around 90 to over 200 minutes.

This is the first in a range of powering options currently being developed by Hawk-Woods for the Blackmagic Camera and is expected to appeal to those who are looking to capture live, mobile action (such as sports or music events) and increase the available run-time of the camera without limiting the cameras mobility.

Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 Review
Ben Sherriff The Canon Cine range of lenses have been around for quite a few years now. The CN-E Cinema Prime lenses became an early alternative to using PL adaptors or the Zeiss Compact Prime lenses. Other than that the choice was rehoused stills lenses or maybe if you were lucky a set of Zeiss super speeds. The cine lens set became a cost effective offering for sharp prime lenses with clear and accurate markings for proper functionality.

Consumer of the shelf technology is coming
Bruce Devlin I had the privilege last week of sitting in a strategy session of the Digital Production Partnership where we were concerned with predicting the future. As Niels Bohr once famously said, "Predictions are really hard - especially when predicting the future". One of the attendees made a comment about camera technology and I instantly thought about the latest greatest and most expensive High Dynamic Range, Wide Colour Gamut, Low Noise, High Sensitivity wonder-device that are being talked about at the technological bleeding edge of the industry.

Libec TH-X Tripod review
Nick Robbins It is worth highlighting that I am primarily an Editor. Like many of us, over the years I have regularly been involved in the entire creative process in some capacity but increasingly I am asked to go out and film the simpler corporate jobs such as exhibition stands or a 'piece to camera' for YouTube, Vimeo etc. and embedded into the customer's web site. These tend to be the jobs which wouldn't happen at all if the client had to pay for the whole package; camera, sound, director, kit hire, etc.

Selecting the right broadcast minicam lens
Steffan Hewitt So we all know that HD and 4K (and beyond) is the norm for content creation and delivery, with the need for unique and versatile shots being offered to increase the audiences participation and visual experiences. A major factor aside from the camera itself is the selection of lens, for some of the UHD sensor formats a broad spectrum of "off the shelf" lenses exist - this however can mean that in some restrictive instances (such as In-Goal and In-Car environments) the physical size of the camera and lens are too large and therefore not suitable for the application.

10 Ways to make your trade show booth stand out
Candice Cowan With 15 halls and over 1600 exhibitors, there's little chance of seeing every stand at the IBC trade show - but this year I gave it a good try and racked up an impressive number of daily steps to prove it! Unlike most show visitors, however, I wasn't looking for the latest bit of tech or next product to purchase, instead I was focussed on how IBC exhibitors use stand design and trade show marketing techniques on the show floor to attract the attention of exhibition visitors.

4k is a reality for live production
Liam Laminman

Some aspects of the broadcast industry move exceedingly quickly; new cameras are launched seemingly daily, shows are commissioned and shows are axed but the overall pace of the industry remains pretty steady. Would it shock you to hear that NHK in Japan first built its own 4K prototype camera in 2003? (At this point, it's worth clarifying that we're using the term '4K' to reference UHDTV1 (3840—2160) but '4K' seems to have shone through as the saleable name tag.) Today, just a mere 13 years later it looks like we're now ready to adopt 4K. It is now a reality within the industry and for the everyday consumer.
