SPLNTR An Immersive Projection Installation Showcasing Cutting Edge Technology Posted: 30/10/2019
SPLNTR and ndash; An Immersive Projection Installation Showcasing Cutting Edge Technology

Ed Shaw of NEICO and Brett Bolton create a stunning immersive projection mapping project in the heart of Las Vegas’ Art District with the help of some of the industry’s top brands.

Tucked away in the Arts District of Las Vegas, a unique installation is taking shape. Ed Shaw of NEICO and Brett Bolton are working tirelessly to create the first of its kind audio visual art installation in Las Vegas. With the support of Avolites, Group One Ltd, AG Light and Sound, X-Laser, GLP and Notch, NEICO presents SPLNTR.

Shaw has had a love for projection since working with 1024 Architecture on the BOOMBOX, one of the first world-wide touring productions of its kind. The spark for SPLNTR came earlier this year when he saw a projection project named ‘POETIC AI' by Ouchhh in Paris and decided that having never seen anything like this in Las Vegas before, now was the time to develop his own idea for an installation. After speaking to a few people, the vision became a reality and he had the go ahead with some help from Avolites. “We were looking for an alternative to a trade show that was more appealing to our clients and designers” Stephen Baird-Smith sales manager of Avolites says “At the same time Ed had the idea for an interactive installation. We’d worked with him and NEICO before on the OMNIA and JEWEL projects so we knew we would work well together. It was the perfect opportunity to bring it together”

disguise solutions power innovative video for the Ariana Grande Sweetener World Tour Posted: 15/10/2019
disguise solutions power innovative video for Ariana Grande and rsquo;s Sweetener World Tour

Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour is underway with disguise 4x4pro media servers and OmniCal projector-calibration engine playing a key role in facilitating the ethereal, galaxy-themed visuals on stage.

The tour supports the artist’s fourth and fifth studio albums, ‘sweetener’ and ‘thank u, next.’ It kicked off in March 2019 in New York and wraps in December 2019 in California, comprising three legs and a total of 102 dates in North America and Europe.

“The tour was designed to highlight the range and femininity of Ariana and create an ever-transforming space for her to perform her latest albums and give the audience an immersive experience to dive into as they witness Ariana's journey through her music,” says Loren Barton, Media Department Director with Lumentech. He has overseen the projection and media departments in support of many recent projects by Production and Lighting Designer LeRoy Bennett. Possible Productions produced the motion graphics for the show, which sees the stage brought to life with visuals of space during the song ‘NASA’, the visuals then turn the stage into a planet, a moon and a galaxy. From conversations with Ariana herself, Michael Figge and his team at Possible created a stage theme for each song that reinforced the choreography and lighting.

Sony introduces the new VPL-HW45ES projector for a true home cinema experience, providing superior Full HD 3D picture quality

Sony has announced the launch of a new Full HD 3D home cinema projector, the VPL-HW45ES, which delivers incredibly sharp, crystal clear imagery for an unforgettable cinematic experience. Following on from the success of the VPL-HW65ES, the new compact VPL-HW45ES projector incorporates Sonys advanced Reality Creation technology and acclaimed SXRD¢ panel. These technologies offer users a clearer and more detailed picture, with better brightness, contrast and resolution as well as less background picture noise than the VPL-HW45ESs predecessor, the VPL-HW40ES. Ideal for those taking their first step into the home cinema market, this cost effective projector fits neatly into any home theatre or living room, with quiet fan noise that won't disturb the show and a front-facing exhaust port for extra installation flexibility. The projector's long-lasting lamp has an extra-generous operation time of up to 6,000 hours, for fewer interruptions and reduced maintenance costs.

Live Streaming Workflows Examined
Bryce Button In today’s hyperconnected world, audiences expect accessible, high quality content across the displays they see every day, whether at home or on the go, at a concert or church service, or even in the board room. There are a number of approaches professionals can take to deliver live content, but each workflow ultimately varies depending upon the delivery platform and the type of display that it’s intended for. There is no one-size fits all approach.

Keeping the Show on the Road
Andy McKenzie There is long-established saying in the media business that, if something goes wrong, at least nobody dies. It is almost true unless you happen to be a TV producer suffering a cardiac arrest because your primary video feed has gone blank during a high-budget programme.

Centre Stage for Cameras with All About Eve
Anthony Newton Taking its inspiration from the classic 1950 film, Ivo van Hove’s stage production of All About Eve, starring Gillian Anderson as theatre darling, Margo Channing, and Lily James as the eponymous Eve, retains the themes of ageing, celebrity and obsession. The piece, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions and Fox Stage Productions garnered stellar reviews during its recent run at London’s Noel Coward Theatre.

Dedo DLED3 Microlighting Kit Review
Jonathan Harrison Having recently had the immense pleasure of getting my hands on the new Minisoftbox adapter ring for the Dedo DLED3 that takes the soft box that fits the standard DLH4 & DLED7. Size matters here! I discovered that there is only about a half stop difference between the DLED7 and the DLED3 output at the surface of the diffusion fabric which is amazing in terms of efficient light output from these delicious and perfectly formed tiny Bi-colour LED lights.

You need wave power if you are going surfing
Tim Bonython Tim Bonython's association with surfing films began in 1978, when armed with a Super-8 camera he set off to Hawaii's infamous North Shore, to capture the big waves and their riders. From that moment he fell in love with the sport, and became obsessed with making it the subject of breathtaking and inspiring films.

Sully - Grading a miracle
Maxine Gervais We all know the story. On 15 January 2009 an Airbus A320 took off from LaGuardia airport in New York, heading for Charlotte. Just a couple of minutes later the plane flew through a flock of Canada geese and blew out both engines. Knowing the risk of crashing into heavily populated areas, Captain Chesley Sullenberger - Sully - aimed for the only long flat surface he could see: the Hudson River.

Dick looks at the faster future
Dick Hobbs. I really enjoyed IBC this year. The fact that I barely set foot on the show floor is, of course, entirely coincidental, and I should take this opportunity to apologise to all those people I did not see in Amsterdam.

Realising the ideal
Dick Hobbs. On 26 July 1916 there was a public meeting in New York. It was called by a group led by Charles Francis Jenkins (and more on him in a moment). But the guest speaker was Henry D Hubbard, at the time the secretary of the US National Bureau of Standards. This is some of what he said:
