Cinedeck and EditShare announce technology partnership

Cinedeck, video post-production and file delivery ingest experts, has announced that its live multicam video ingest solutions have been integrated with EditShare’s storage and Media Asset Management solutions, EFSand FLOW. The partnership allows media captured with Cinedeck hardware appliances or Capture2Cloud to be written directly to on premise EFS hardware or Cloud based EditShare EFS Flex cloud systems, respectively. When assets are recorded by Cinedeck, a real-time Flow compatible proxy file is created and immediately checked into FLOW for preview, searching, tagging, markers, and other metadata.

IBC 2022: TVU Networks New Look, New Connections

At IBC this year, TVU Networks will demonstrate exciting updates and new partner integrations to its cloud-based remote production ecosystem. New to the TVU cloud production solution is TVU RPS (Remote Production System) Link Encoder which allows multi-channel REMI production over 5G cellular networks. Another new module is TVU Replay, a multi-camera control sports app. TVU Replay enables officials to instantly review play during games and for producers to include that live video within their coverage. TVU will also announce an integration with Stream Deck from Elgato. Stream Deck is a physical control interface device popular with gamers streaming on Twitch and YouTube. Using Stream Deck to control live production from the TVU Producer platform makes seamless production easy for a new generation of content creators.

Ikegami Europe Announces Unicam UHK-X750 4K-UHD HDR Studio Camera

Ikegami Electronics (Europe) announces a major addition to its range of broadcast production cameras. Introduced at the April 2022 NAB Show in Las Vegas and now confirmed for the EAME market, the UHK-X750 is a full studio/OB camera optimised for fixed-mount operation on a pedestal or tripod. Integrated into a robust metal housing designed to ensure extreme ruggedness, it includes high frame-rate capture for slow motion applications, global shutter sensors and versatile connectivity.

"The UHK-X750 is intended for production studios and outside broadcast service providers seeking high mastering quality to maximise the commercial longevity of their productions," comments Ikegami Electronics (Europe) Broadcast & Professional Video Division manager Michael Lätzsch. "It offers all the advanced capabilities of Ikegami's flagship Unicam UHK-X700 except for those that apply to portable shoulder operation. Distinguishing elements of the UHK-X750 include a lower centre-of-gravity and easier staging compared to a portable camera."

The Future of Broadcast Technology
Sebastian Richter

Spotlight on Sebastian Richter, Vice President Media Systems at Rohde & Schwarz.

We are currently in the middle of a transition phase with migration to several new technologies, from the move to IP-based infrastructure and the shift from linear to video-on-demand (VOD).
The question for all of us is how long that transition phase will last; it is going to be faster for some customers then for others – national broadcasters, for example – it will be a slower process.

The Future of Broadcast Technology
Manfred Reitmeier

Now that OTT and VOD have become more mainstream, many commentators talk about traditional broadcast methods, like terrestrial transmission, being a thing of the past. With so many new platforms and non-traditional content services carving out a growing slice of the market, you can be forgiven for thinking that linear over-the-air television is on its way out. The reality is that the industry must strike a balance between meeting consumers’ shifting habits and the business and operational needs of content providers.

A switch in time: how KVM can unlock the future of broadcasting
Chris Smeeton

One of the major changes for broadcasters during the pandemic has been the shift towards remote production; by no means a new phenomenon in an IP environment, yet accelerated under lockdown to accommodate travel and gathering restrictions. A 2021 report found that almost 40% of broadcast professionals now employ remote production, up 9% on the previous year.

Cloud integration: The only way is up
Francois Vaillant

In 2017 we saw the introduction of SMPTE 2110 and since then, the transition to IP has emerged as a priority for broadcasters looking to streamline their operations, decrease their footprint and effectively integrate with an industry in a rapid state of flux. A 2020 survey by Devoncroft found that almost 20% of broadcasters had already deployed SMPTE 2110, and over 25% were planning to do so. Then came the pandemic, precipitating the need for on-the-fly collaboration and accelerating the transition to remote, virtual and cloud production.

The Cloud - a measured approach

With the buzz of ‘cloud’ everywhere in our industry it would be natural to think that cloud is the only game in town. Isn’t it time to step back and consider very carefully how, or whether, you make that journey to the cloud?

Meeting the specification
Chris Smeeton

A good technical specification will detail precisely what is required, from the equipment to the cables connecting it. Many specifications will give  particular manufacturers and model numbers. On many occasions, this makes tendering simple and gives vendors a secure and fair way to bid.
