KitchenFish Counts on FOR-A Video Switcher and nbsp;for Reliable Coverage of Daily Lottery Broadcast and nbsp;

KitchenFish LLC, the video production company responsible for the nightly broadcast coverage of the South Carolina Education Lottery, is using a new FOR-A HVS-390HS video switcher for its productions. Located a few blocks from the state capitol, the KitchenFish studio hosts the nightly lottery drawings, and also supports live shots of state and local officials for national news outlets. The switcher was installed on April 14 and used for that evening’s production.

“We need to show all these graphics and video inserts simultaneously, and the new FORA switcher gives us a lot of flexibility,” said Jim Simmons, chief engineer for KitchenFish. “Price made a difference, but reliability is the one thing that has to be foremost, because we don’t have a second chance.

Magewell Selected for 2020 Streaming Media Producer 25 List of Online Video Production Technology Leaders

Magewell has been named to the second annual Streaming Media Producer 25 list of the leading technology companies driving advances in live streaming media production. The Streaming Media Producer 25 recognizes innovative companies that enable, enhance and streamline the workflows of live video producers – particularly those who need the mobility, agility, and versatility to deliver great work, regardless of the venue or production conditions.

“The Streaming Media Producer 25 highlights companies who develop and manufacture gear that not only demonstrates promise or prowess in one or more stages of the live production and streaming process, but also fits well as part of a kit that makes the overall workflow successful,” said Steve Nathans-Kelly, editor of Streaming Media Producer.

The 2020 edition marks the second time that Magewell has been named to the Streaming Media Producer 25. Since its selection to the inaugural list last year, the company has continued to introduce new products and expanded features that help a diverse range of content producers create, deliver and display high-quality streams easily, efficiently and cost-effectively. Magewell has also made the transition to IP-based production workflows affordable and practical with new models in its Pro Convert family of NDI® encoders and decoders.

Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software Posted: 15/04/2020
Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software

Magewell today announced a new upgrade of its free Capture Express recording application that expands the software's streaming capabilities. Version 3.2 adds new support for multiple streaming technologies including the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol developed and open-sourced by Haivision.

While Magewell capture devices feature extensive compatibility with popular third-party software for streaming, live production, web conferencing, lecture capture and more, the Capture Express software offers Magewell users a lightweight, dedicated tool for recording, previewing or streaming input sources. Originally designed to help users easily verify their input signals and capture devices, Capture Express has evolved into a simple yet full-fledged capture application supporting video up to 4K at 60 frames per second.

Version 3.0 of Capture Express initially offered easy recording and previewing functionality, and the subsequent version 3.1 added the ability to stream H.264-encoded video using the RTMP protocol. Now, version 3.2 further expands the software's streaming flexibility with support for the SRT protocol as well as MPEG-TS over UDP or RTP. Enabling secure, reliable, low-latency video delivery over unpredictable networks, SRT ensures high-quality streaming experiences even over the public internet. Magewell is a member of the SRT Alliance.

FOR-A FT-ONE-SS4K Ultra High-Speed Cameras Capture 4K Footage at 1,000 fps for Live Production Posted: 07/04/2020
FOR-A FT-ONE-SS4K Ultra High-Speed Cameras Capture and nbsp;4K Footage at 1,000 fps for Live Production

As audience appetites for sports coverage continue to increase, FOR-A Corporation of America offers a range of FT-ONE variable frame rate cameras to deliver the action in super slow motion. Recent advances now allow playback of 4K video at up to 1,000 frames per second to provide incredible detail for live broadcast applications.

“Sports continue to be a driving factor in the need for high frame rate cameras, and nobody delivers instant replays like FOR-A,” explained Ken Truong, President of FOR-A Corporation of America. “Our FT-ONE special purpose cameras are designed for super-slo-mo 4K acquisition of sports and other live event footage, and can be combined with other FOR-A tools to deliver unprecedented replay flexibility.”

For example, several FT-ONE-SS4K cameras were used for critical ultra-slo-mo replays during the live broadcast of the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid, as well as other high-profile live sports event across the world. The exceptional feature of the FT-ONE-SS4K is “brightness.” When equipped with a B4 bayonet lens, the camera shoots footage up to four times brighter than models with a PL lens. Plus, the FT-ONE-SS4K shoots up to 1,000 fps in 4K, offers simultaneous record and playback with internal memory, and features independent real-time 4K or HD output. Other features include 24-axis color correction and compatibility with Canon’s OLED viewfinder.

Riedel MediorNet and Artist Provide Signal Routing and Comms Backbone for RTL Croatias Studio Upgrade to HD Posted: 26/03/2020
Riedel MediorNet and Artist Provide Signal Routing and Comms Backbone for RTL Croatias Studio Upgrade to HD

RTL Croatia, one of Croatia's largest broadcasters, has chosen Riedel Communications' MediorNet real-time network and Artist digital matrix intercom for its comprehensive studio upgrade to HD operations. MediorNet and Artist are at the core of an integrated and decentralized signal routing and communications backbone that drives RTL's news and master control rooms, including a large video wall with more than 100 picture-in-picture (PiP) displays.

Launched in 2004, RTL Croatia is a division of RTL Group, a Luxembourg-based digital media company with interests in 61 television and 30 radio stations in 10 countries. Working with Riedel's local distributor and consultant, AVC Zagreb, RTL Croatia has just finished a four-year project to upgrade its production facilities to deliver its eight channels in HD. The latest HD channel, RTL Adria, went live in January.

"When RTL Croatia presented their requirements for a comprehensive networking and routing solution for the studio upgrade, we had no hesitation in recommending Riedel Communications," said Juraj Novina, Sales Manager at AVC Zagreb. "We were completely confident that MediorNet could provide the seamless, reliable, and high-quality signal transport and communications needed for RTL's new HD service. Plus, MediorNet also gives RTL the guarantee of a smooth transition to IP in the future, with the proven track record of a market-tested solution."

ASG Strengthens Los Angeles Sales, Service Efforts with Industry Veteran Team of Kym Cannon and Kelli Clark Posted: 24/03/2020
ASG Strengthens Los Angeles Sales, Service Efforts with Industry Veteran Team of Kym Cannon and Kelli Clark

Advanced Systems Group (ASG), a leading media technology and engineering firm, today announced it has added the team of Kymberly Cannon and Kelli Clark to enhance sales and service efforts across Southern California. Cannon, a regional sales manager, and Clark, a solutions engineer, worked together at Quantum before joining ASG earlier this month.

Before Clark was a solutions architect at Quantum, she served for 23 years as the senior SAN/fiber channel architect and supervising engineer for 20th Century Fox, and also held technical roles for Pixar Animation Studios and Skywalker Sound. Cannon spent seven years as a regional sales manager for Quantum, often partnering with ASG on top strategic accounts. Previously, she was an account manager for Dell EMC/Isilon, HP, CommVault, and HDS.

While ASG has been an established media and entertainment service provider in Los Angeles for almost a decade, the company also supports high-end corporate video clients representing a diverse group of industries in the region. The Los Angeles office is led by Andy Darcy, who relocated to the market in 2018 after previously handling business development for ASG’s New York-based operations.

“This was a rare opportunity to recruit a successful industry team to our Los Angeles operations,” said Dave Van Hoy, president of ASG. “With Kym and Kelli, we look forward to building our customer base across a number of vertical markets, growing our Managed Services efforts, and continuing to lead with service across Southern California.”

Why Routing Control
Mark Davies Routing control sits at the very heart of all advanced control systems. A well-configured system that manages signal routes throughout a facility and groups multi-level actions into a single control surface allows for much richer and focused production. Using one-touch panels, operators could route video, audio and data signals between the various elements of a network, perhaps to route a camera signal to a vision mixer, as well as through other processors, before it arrives at its destination. Users could adopt routing control to trigger an external event, a complete reconfiguration of a multi-router setup, route several sources simultaneously, or make set routes or multiple routes via a single button press.

The Importance of Audio Production Systems
Tom Knowles Large-scale entertainment programming presents a unique set of challenges for broadcasters. Often extremely high-profile keystones of a broadcaster’s schedule and increasingly billed as live ‘event television’, as well as delivering the very best audio quality they demand a huge degree of flexibility and agility in terms of their production. With music being such a core component of their appeal to growing audiences, in both linear broadcast and online, nowhere is that more important than their audio production systems.

The Networking Revolution
Neil Vann We all seek greater flexibility in everything we do. Whether it is another app for your phone, checking for a faster route on your sat-nav, or a changeable hotel booking, the more options we have, the better! Flexibility is fantastic. It offers us choices that we may never want or need, but at least we know that they are there on the off-chance that we do.

Eye Contact in Documentaries
Sybil Ah-Mane Eye contact filming (where the interview subject speaks directly into the lens) is now more common in documentaries. But it hasn’t always been possible or acceptable for filmmakers to do. When I studied Screen Documentary in 1998, I was taught that the subject should look to the left or right of the screen. As an interviewer, I sat close to the camera so the person being filmed looked at me whilst talking. I encouraged them to ignore the camera and focus on me during our conversation.

A Focus on the Feels
Simon Jones

Founded in London in the early 70s, Densitron was – as many companies are in the beginning - a small, specialist provider of an emerging range of thoughtfully assembled display technology products.

But that was 45 years ago. Although still London-based, it is no longer accurate to refer to Densitron as ‘small’. Consistent growth through the decades - coupled with recently becoming part of Quixant, the global gaming and broadcast technology group - has seen Densitron expand as part of a much larger, publicly traded company with offices in Europe, Asia, and America comprised of more than 200 employees generating annual turnover in excess of $100m.
