Hiltron to Show Latest-Generation HMAM LEO Motorised Satcom Flyaway at GovSatCom 2023

Hiltron Communications has chosen the upcoming GovSatCom 2023 in Luxembourg at which to promote its latest-generation HMAM LEO high speed motorised tracking antenna mount. The event will be held in the European Convention Center on February 23rd.

Based on over 10 years of Hiltron experience in designing, manufacturing and integrating motorised satellite mounts, HMAM LEO is capable of accommodating parabolic antennas of up to 2.4 metres diameter. Supported on a high-stability ground pillar, it incorporates the computing resources needed to track satellites using the NORAD TLE (two-line element) data format which defines satellite locations based on their location and velocity. The system can lock onto the desired LEO satellite within the approximately 10 minute timespan where the target satellite is in sight.

Radio Television Dominicana Invests in Ikegami UHK-X700 4K-Native Camera Systems

CERTV, State Radio & Television Corporation of the Dominican Republic, has chosen Ikegami cameras for use at its headquarters in Santo Domingo. Four complete UHK-X700 camera systems have been purchased for use in a variety of production roles on the corporation's Radio Televisión Dominicana channel, RTVD 4.

"UHK-X700 cameras were chosen based on the reputation of Ikegami equipment for high signal quality, durability and excellent post sale support," comments Luis Aquino, CERTV's Director of TV and Radio Technology. "This new investment forms part of RTVD 4's gradual transition to HD program production and digital transmission."

Ikegami Reports Ongoing Transition from HD-SDR to UHD-HDR and SDI to IP Broadcast Production Through 2022

Ikegami reports ongoing broadcast and professional media innovation throughout 2022 including the Unicam UHK-X750 IP-capable UHD HDR HFR camera plus the R2 Real Remote production system.

"UHD-HDR has replaced UHD-SDR as the default standard for consumer TV displays," says Michael Lätzsch, Broadcast & Professional Video Division Manager at Ikegami Electronics (Europe) GmbH. "This in turn has encouraged broadcast-focused production companies to invest in UHD-HDR camera systems. UHD-HDR content is becoming increasingly available online from dedicated streaming channels. A growing number of broadcasters are also supplementing their HD-SDR terrestrial and satellite transmissions with online UHD-SDR content."

The Future of Broadcast Technology
Sebastian Richter

Spotlight on Sebastian Richter, Vice President Media Systems at Rohde & Schwarz.

We are currently in the middle of a transition phase with migration to several new technologies, from the move to IP-based infrastructure and the shift from linear to video-on-demand (VOD).
The question for all of us is how long that transition phase will last; it is going to be faster for some customers then for others – national broadcasters, for example – it will be a slower process.

Over the next eight years we are going to be in transition, and within that there will be vastly different rates of change among content owners and media organisations. The Future of Broadcast Technology
Manfred Reitmeier

Now that OTT and VOD have become more mainstream, many commentators talk about traditional broadcast methods, like terrestrial transmission, being a thing of the past. With so many new platforms and non-traditional content services carving out a growing slice of the market, you can be forgiven for thinking that linear over-the-air television is on its way out. The reality is that the industry must strike a balance between meeting consumers’ shifting habits and the business and operational needs of content providers.

A switch in time: how KVM can unlock the future of broadcasting
Chris Smeeton

One of the major changes for broadcasters during the pandemic has been the shift towards remote production; by no means a new phenomenon in an IP environment, yet accelerated under lockdown to accommodate travel and gathering restrictions. A 2021 report found that almost 40% of broadcast professionals now employ remote production, up 9% on the previous year.

Cloud integration: The only way is up
Francois Vaillant

In 2017 we saw the introduction of SMPTE 2110 and since then, the transition to IP has emerged as a priority for broadcasters looking to streamline their operations, decrease their footprint and effectively integrate with an industry in a rapid state of flux. A 2020 survey by Devoncroft found that almost 20% of broadcasters had already deployed SMPTE 2110, and over 25% were planning to do so. Then came the pandemic, precipitating the need for on-the-fly collaboration and accelerating the transition to remote, virtual and cloud production.

The Cloud - a measured approach
Ciaran Doran

With the buzz of ‘cloud’ everywhere in our industry it would be natural to think that cloud is the only game in town. Isn’t it time to step back and consider very carefully how, or whether, you make that journey to the cloud?

Meeting the specification
Chris Smeeton

A good technical specification will detail precisely what is required, from the equipment to the cables connecting it. Many specifications will give  particular manufacturers and model numbers. On many occasions, this makes tendering simple and gives vendors a secure and fair way to bid.
