LCBC Church Mic Upgrade Takes Sound and Comfort to the Next Level Posted: 15/07/2020
LCBC Church Mic Upgrade Takes Sound and Comfort to the Next Level

LCBC Church, an evangelical megachurch with 14 campuses through Central Pennsylvania, is one of the largest and most well-known churches in America. As such, its leaders expect only the best from the equipment they purchase. When DPA Microphones released the world’s smallest high-end pro audio headset microphone, with a capsule that measures in at just 3 mm (0.12 in) in diameter, LCBC’s audio team took notice. Among the first houses of worship to purchase DPA’s award-winning 6066 CORE Subminiature Headset – one for each of its two primary communicators, the church selected the mic for its high-quality sound, sleek design, enhanced comfort and small form-factor.

Genesys from Neve Helps Radar Sounds Stays True To Its Analogue Roots Posted: 03/07/2020
Neve and reg; Genesys Helps Radar Sounds Stays True To Its Analogue Roots

Radar Sounds, one of the few remaining studios in the UK to offer true analogue tape recording facilities, has installed a Neve® Genesys G32 console.

Studio owner "Fuzz" Barthram-Keet says: “I already own a pair of Neve® 1073DPA mic pre-amps and I know just how much I love the sound of them, so a Neve console was top of my shopping list. The desk’s fabulous analogue design and Neve preamp circuitry allows us to keep the mix analogue from start to finish without sacrificing modern features such as hands-on DAW control and connectivity.”

Radar Sounds is located on Platts Eyot, a small island in the River Thames (close to Hampton Court). As well as tracking, Fuzz also offers mixing and mastering services and describes the business as a ‘one stop shop’ for musicians, media companies and voice over artists.

New Year, New Decade, New Rig
Alex Macleod So I finally decided to pull the trigger and put together my own system using their intuitive configurator which you can find on the 3XS website. The University of the Third Age
Bernard Newnham Here's a cliché - "We all get to be old one day - if we're lucky". There comes a point when things like "....mastered in Dolby Vision Domestic and SDR Rec 709....." become just a touch unimportant (and actually I never really understood that stuff in the first place). I retired for the third time last year - BBC producer, and before that cameraman, then freelance producer, trainer, do-your-own camera, sound, editor, blah blah, then 11 years university teaching. I did my bit - never a BAFTA, but certainly the first into a good few things - but it all has to come to an end sometime.

Keeping the Show on the Road
Andy McKenzie There is long-established saying in the media business that, if something goes wrong, at least nobody dies. It is almost true unless you happen to be a TV producer suffering a cardiac arrest because your primary video feed has gone blank during a high-budget programme.

Review: JVC GY-HC900 Camera
Andy McKenzie JVC has a long history of developing relatively low price-point equipment, dating right back to its success in the 1970s with the VHS tape format. JVC products sometimes impact the broadcast mainstream but generally find greatest success in niche market segments such as news production where price and portability take priority over the no-comprise quality and robustness demanded by the leading studio-based and OB content producers.

NAB 2019 Highlights
Paul MacKenzie The NAB Show in Las Vegas never loses its capacity to surprise. With NHK already transmitting in 8K and the Tokyo Olympics just a year away, this might have been the year that 8K equipment prices descended from the stratosphere to just plain expensive. The main trends at NAB 2019 were an increasing focus on HD-HDR, Media-over-IP and 4K. 8K was pretty low key except for a very promising demo on the Sharp stand: an extremely compact 8K camera at an impressively low price point: $4,000. Shooting at 30 frames per second to an internal card and using a prosumer-style Olympus lens, it looked very much an entry-level product but one with phenomenal potential for any videographer looking to work with very large display screen sizes.
