JVC CONNECTED CAM Ushers in New Era of Quality and Connectivity for Friday Night Lights New Hampshire

When Friday Night Lights New Hampshire (FNLNHmedia / FNLNH) was created, Co-owners Stephen Beals and Nick Anastos were looking to bring live HD play-by-play coverage of the Granite State’s top high school games to the community. Not happy with their previous camera systems, the duo set out on a quest to find a solution capable of providing broadcast-quality video over the internet directly from the camera. They found what they were looking for with the GY-HC500 and GY-HC900 CONNECTED CAM™ camcorders from JVC Professional Video, a division of JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation.

Video Journalist Taps JVC CONNECTED CAM for Upcoming Aviation Documentary

storyteller by nature, Annalisa Russell-Smith has been a video journalist for 13 years for a variety of high-profile clients and her work has appeared in media outlets around the world, including the BBC. Russell-Smith is  also a certified drone pilot, and last year became one of the first civilian Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) pilots, enabling her to fly large, work-class drones that may be in another county, or even another continent.  Her passion for flying was reignited during the COVID-19 pandemic. Always eager to share her point of view through the use of captured images, Russell-Smith combined her passions to embark on her latest project—a documentary about the world of aviation and the people who drive it. For this varied and challenging project, Russell-Smith chose the GY-HC550 CONNECTED CAM from JVC Professional Video, a division of JVCKENWOOD USA Corporation.

As the first local radio station in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, WMBS has been keeping its local community informed of news, weather and local sports since 1937. Rare Analogue Masters Are Digitized With Prism Sound Posted: 31/03/2021
Rare Analogue Masters Are Digitized With Prism Sound

Prism Sound audio conversion equipment is playing a key role in a marathon restoration project that will see 233 analogue master tapes converted into useable digital WAV. files.

The tapes belong to Good Time Records (GTR), an international catalogue owner and label with offices in the UK and US (Nashville). Content included in these tapes comes from the Crash, Satril and Catawba labels, all three of which were formerly administered by the Henry Hadaway Organisation (HHO), a company established in 1969 by Henry Hadaway MBE.

HHO became an innovator in the independent record label sector and it achieved great success during the 1970s and 1980s with artists such as The Sandpipers, The Rockin’ Berries, Kenny Lynch, Frankie Vaughan, Lyn Paul (ex-New Seekers), The Tweets, Marvin Gaye, Wilson Picket, Brook Benton and Jackie Moore. GTR, which regularly buys vintage catalogues, acquired the Crash, Satril and Catawba labels in 2020 as part of a multi-label catalogue deal.

The masters currently being restored comprise the recording archive of the former Satril Studios in North London. Among them is The Birdie Song by The Tweets, which sold over 1.6 million copies in the UK alone.

The digitization of GTR’s archive is being undertaken by sound engineer Graham Joiner, who runs a specialist audio restoration company in Brentwood, Essex. His studio is equipped with three Prism Sound Titan audio interfaces, which were specifically acquired to tackle the GTR project.

UCLAN Neve Genesys Black Console Plays a Key Role In Mixing Projects For The Global Sound Movement Posted: 21/04/2020
UCLAN and rsquo;s Neve Genesys Black Console Plays a Key Role In Mixing Projects For The Global Sound Movement

Capturing the sound of hand-built instruments is the sole remit of the Global Sound Movement (GSM), an organisation established in 2015 by lecturers and researchers from the University of Central Lancashire. GSM samples unique instruments in their natural setting. In addition to natural ambient recordings, GSM also creates high resolution, broadcast quality virtual instruments and sound libraries that can be integrated with music production software.

Postproduction for GSM’s recording projects is carried out at the University’s Media Factory in a professionally equipped recording studio that has a Neve Genesys Black GB32 console as its centrepiece.

Phil Holmes, a producer and lecturer in Music Production at UCLAN, is one of the co-founders of GSM. He says: “The Neve Genesys Black is the ideal console for tackling GSM postproduction because it has such a wonderful, warm analogue sound. The fact that it is digitally controlled is also invaluable because we were able to automate the consoles analogue features, processing the samples in real time, keeping up a fast paced in-the-box workflow while maintaining absolute analogue sonic quality throughout. No other console I have worked on can achieve this. The total recall of the board meant that we could work on large sessions while compiling the thousands of samples we had collected, process them and then come back to the console session at a later date when more recordings were sent back to the studio from subsequent GSM trips.”

GB Labs FastNAS F-16 Nitro Installed at Kingdom Creative Posted: 17/02/2020
GB Labs FastNAS F-16 Nitro Installed at Kingdom Creative

GB Labs, innovators of powerful and intelligent media storage solutions for the media and entertainment industries, today confirmed that the specialist video production company, Kingdom Creative Studios, has installed GB Labs’ FastNAS F-16 Nitro storage system.

Kingdom Creative founder and Managing Director, Simon Harrison, said, “Our talented in-house team works closely with major brands¬ - primarily in automotive but rapidly expanding into new markets - to deliver powerful video content tailored to engage audiences on every platform, from television to social media.

“However, our expansion, coupled with the advent of 4K, multi-cam shoots and the increasing demand for rapid turnaround, meant that we reached the practical limits of what our existing storage system could do. We had to find a better way to manage and operate storage.”

For the majority of its existence, Kingdom Creative had relied on what many still rely on today, i.e., storing video content on individual drives, backing them up, and walking them up and down corridors or transferring them via couriers.

“As we began taking on larger and more complicated projects,” said Kingdom Creative Head of Creative Technology Ben Treston, “especially when collaboration between editors became important, it turned out that the old methods were no longer viable. Today, we have multiple editors working on many pieces of content from the same project. You can’t share individual hard drives and meet today’s expectations for speed and reliability in those types of scenarios.”

The FastNAS F-16 Nitro system meets those objectives for speed, reliability and value in shared storage. Unlike other NAS products on the market, FastNAS is purpose built to sustain heavy workloads and provide stable and reliable performance, based on best of breed technology exclusively developed in-house, and is comprised of a high-performance unit with unique hybrid disk technology, powered by GB Labs’ proprietary CORE.3 OS.

GB Labs CEO-CTO Dominic Harland said, “Kingdom Creative emerged from a motorsport world built for speed, and that’s what modern shared storage has been engineered to deal with. FastNAS F-16 Nitro easily accommodates the need for speed – and safety – when dealing with fast turnarounds and sharp bends.”

HOLLYLAND LARK 150 Review
Phil Vinter

The exponential growth of video supercharged a technological revolution that began in the early noughties with the advent of DSLR cameras.
The cinematic-style shallow depth of field image video quality from DSLRs was a revelation, but, back then audio was the big drawback. As demand has grown so the technology has improved and today’s one-man-band small rig set ups can capture pretty good sound into a DSLR style camera.

Phil Vinter reviews the latest release from HOLLYLAND and it's a thumbs up from us.

ERA IaaS at University of Salford
KitPlus The University of Salford (UoS) is widely recognised in both academic and professional circles as a leading educational establishment in acoustics and media production. In 2011 the University moved its television and radio courses from its main campus just outside Salford city centre into the Orange Tower on the main piazza of MediaCityUK (MCUK).

This purpose-built hub for broadcasters, facility houses and production companies was created when redevelopment of the old Salford Quays docks area began in 2007. UoS was among the first institutions to consider moving to MCUK, along with the BBC, which had already committed to transfer many of its departments from London.
