Giornale Radio Selects DHD.audio RX2 and TX Audio Mixers for New PCR and Live Transmission Studio Posted: 24/10/2022
Giornale Radio Selects DHD.audio RX2 and TX Audio Mixers for New PCR and Live Transmission Studio

Milan-based broadcaster Giornale Radio has chosen a latest-generation DHD RX2 audio mixing console for installation into a new production control room, plus a TX compact touchscreen mixer for use in the adjacent live transmission studio. The project was supervised by broadcast systems integrator BVmedia.

"Giornale Radio required a console that a single studio operator could use easily and flexibly for visual radio production," comments Roberto Zeccara, Senior Project Manager at BVmedia. "The solution we recommended, installed and commissioned, integrates efficiently and effectively into the GR workflow. It centres on an 18-channel RX2 with dual Dante audio-over-IP in/outs plus an audio routing switcher to connect with five FM radio transmission areas. GR confirmed the choice of RX2, chosen for its unsurpassed sound quality, excellent cost-efficiency and highly flexible logic customisation."

The Future of Broadcast Technology
Manfred Reitmeier

Now that OTT and VOD have become more mainstream, many commentators talk about traditional broadcast methods, like terrestrial transmission, being a thing of the past. With so many new platforms and non-traditional content services carving out a growing slice of the market, you can be forgiven for thinking that linear over-the-air television is on its way out. The reality is that the industry must strike a balance between meeting consumers’ shifting habits and the business and operational needs of content providers.

Cloud integration: The only way is up
Francois Vaillant

In 2017 we saw the introduction of SMPTE 2110 and since then, the transition to IP has emerged as a priority for broadcasters looking to streamline their operations, decrease their footprint and effectively integrate with an industry in a rapid state of flux. A 2020 survey by Devoncroft found that almost 20% of broadcasters had already deployed SMPTE 2110, and over 25% were planning to do so. Then came the pandemic, precipitating the need for on-the-fly collaboration and accelerating the transition to remote, virtual and cloud production.

ERA IaaS at University of Salford
KitPlus The University of Salford (UoS) is widely recognised in both academic and professional circles as a leading educational establishment in acoustics and media production. In 2011 the University moved its television and radio courses from its main campus just outside Salford city centre into the Orange Tower on the main piazza of MediaCityUK (MCUK).

This purpose-built hub for broadcasters, facility houses and production companies was created when redevelopment of the old Salford Quays docks area began in 2007. UoS was among the first institutions to consider moving to MCUK, along with the BBC, which had already committed to transfer many of its departments from London.

How to engage students with live projects
Martin Andrews For many employers, how and what we teach at university is sometimes considered to be very mysterious. The responsibility for creating the structure and content within the curriculum is the responsibility of academics. In my experience, the best method for making sure that students and staff are kept up to date with current working practices is to regularly engage with ‘Live’ projects and ‘Real’ clients.
