You need more damn pixels
Jan Weigner There has obviously been a lot of chatter in recent years about 4K, but is it enough? 8K and beyond is where the excitement lies, but not in the way you might think. 8K and beyond for broadcast, both of which are easily achievable in a software-only, IP environment, may seem a bridge too far for most at the moment, and they're probably right¦for now.

5 Things I Saw At NAB
Peter Savage 2 ARRI Trinity stabilisation It may look like something that was dreamt up for a sci-fi film but the Trinity stabilisation system is a truly remarkable bit of kit that is most certainly real. Available as an upgrade to the Artemis or a third-party camera stabiliser, it consists of a compact and lightweight two-axis gimbal head, a monitor mount and joystick that attach to the gimbal handle, a battery hanger module and a pendulum that allows for perfect 'drop down' moves. As it works with a vest, it is essentially a cross between a steadicam and a small crane. The shots you can get with this are incredible. It was first s

Adam Schadle Just a few short years ago, 4k was the future, but now that 4k televisions and other screens are becoming more widely available, the format is careening toward the present. 4k is still an emerging delivery format, to be sure. After all, there are still places in the world that have yet to transition from SD to HD. But progress marches on. Even as were in the process of adopting and perfecting 4k production equipment, methods, and content delivery, were looking toward doing the same with 8k video, with certain large-audience events and special venue applications as a starting point.

4k - The biggest New Years resolution
John Ive Whether it is Ultra High Definition (UHD), 4K or 8K - the predictions surrounding when and if this higher resolution format will become a widespread reality are still rife in the broadcast and media industry. The consensus in the sector seems to be that we may be edging marginally closer. However, many of the barriers remain the same and there are fundamentals that still have to be addressed surrounding both content and challenges relating to delivery.

4K Streaming and the Future of 8K
Keith Wymbs There is little doubt that 4K and Ultra HD video will take hold over the next three years. These higher-resolution video types are a genuine advance from traditional HD and they likely will progress more quickly than their HD predecessor given the solid digital foundation now in place and advances such as high-efficiency video coding (HEVC/H.265).
