IBC 2019 A Whistle Stop Rundown
I’ve been to IBC once before, taking to the floor with Simon, Matt, Jon and the rest of the KitPlus team to assist with the filming of interviews. This was a lot of fun, but it was hard to find the time to look at the kit I wanted to see. This year with the demise of BVE and unable to make it to the Media Production Show I decided to fork out for a ‘research’ trip to IBC. In the spirit of full disclosure, I ought to note that I have two small children and a very busy work schedule, so the trip had nothing to do with escaping for a weekend of uninterrupted sleep and meal times (honest). Due to these commitments I could only manage one full day and a few hours the next day at the show so it was a lot to cram in trying to see everything I wanted to see! |

REVIEW Canon UJ111x8_3B UHD Lens
Shooting in ultra high definition and high dynamic range has become the preferred option for all television productions with a potentially long commercial life. The hir-ing charge and indeed the outright purchase cost of cameras of this standard are not significantly greater than those of high definition standard dynamic range models. With half the world's news reporters now able to capture UHD video on their mobile phones, why give the production crews anything less? |

NAB 2019 Highlights
The NAB Show in Las Vegas never loses its capacity to surprise. With NHK already transmitting in 8K and the Tokyo Olympics just a year away, this might have been the year that 8K equipment prices descended from the stratosphere to just plain expensive. The main trends at NAB 2019 were an increasing focus on HD-HDR, Media-over-IP and 4K. 8K was pretty low key except for a very promising demo on the Sharp stand: an extremely compact 8K camera at an impressively low price point: $4,000. Shooting at 30 frames per second to an internal card and using a prosumer-style Olympus lens, it looked very much an entry-level product but one with phenomenal potential for any videographer looking to work with very large display screen sizes. |

Canon C200: Tried and Tested
There are many reviews about this camera online and a heap of incredibly detailed comparison and behind the scenes footage that will really give you a full insight into what it can do. So first a disclaimer - this review is less detailed and based on my personal reading of what this camera means for Canon and all other camera manufacturers and us – the users of these technologies. So, what’s all the fuss about? |

Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 Review
The Canon Cine range of lenses have been around for quite a few years now. The CN-E Cinema Prime lenses became an early alternative to using PL adaptors or the Zeiss Compact Prime lenses. Other than that the choice was rehoused stills lenses or maybe if you were lucky a set of Zeiss super speeds. The cine lens set became a cost effective offering for sharp prime lenses with clear and accurate markings for proper functionality. |

Canon C300 MkII Reviewed
It 's been just over eight months since the release of the updated C300 camera the C300 MkII and almost five years since Vincent Laforet shot Mobius with a pre-production C300. In a landscape dominated by self-shooters and the continued rise of internet video, the C300 perhaps surprisingly like it 's forefather the 5DMkII came to become a solid staple of broadcast / reality production, independent film and online content. In fact, it became the most hired camera in Great Britain, so when I was offered the opportunity to shoot for two weeks with the MkII on a job and review the camera for KitPlus, I was keen to really get to grips with the new offering. |

NAB Review
As I emerge from the customary post-NAB haze and try to formulate a coherent analysis of the 2016 show, perhaps the most striking realisation is that despite pacing the halls for four long days, I barely scratched the surface. The scale of the event, much like Las Vegas itself, is simply extraordinary, with over 100,000 attendees and nearly 1900 exhibitors. Right from the first morning of the show, my social media feeds have been full of reviews of amazing products and technical advancements, many of which I just didnt get time to see. Here, however, are some highlights of the things I did manage to get to. |

The work of five viewers with no transcoders
I am a digital imaging technician and editor with more than 15 years of experience in the film and television industry. I have traveled the world working with various production companies on popular network reality series, such as TNT's "72 Hours," National Geographic Channel's "Ultimate Survival Alaska," and MTV's "Are You The One?" I'm also the editor for Theory Studios, an online animation studio that produces short cartoons and VFX. I came up in the industry as a camera operator, but in the past five years I have moved into data management. |

Zoom lenses and minicams
Finding a quality tracking zoom lens for the minicams made for the likes of Toshiba/Iconix/Hitachi/Sony has been an uphill battle. The cameras have been made primarily for the medical imaging market for microscopes and endoscopes but adopted by the broadcast industry as a high end minicam. However lenses were always a problem. Fujinon made the TF range of 1/3 prism corrected lenses for this market but no zoom lens. A zoom lens project, and specifically now with HD, is just not big enough for the big players such as Fujinon and Canon but now there is something in the market. |

4KTV The next bigger thing?
The history of 4K digital moving images goes way back to the mid 1990s. That was when film effects started to be processed digitally and produced amazing results maybe a bit too amazing for some. Of course the effects had to be seamless and so the digitised effects images had to carry all the required detail of the 35mm film. Without going into detail Kodak maintained that this required at least a 4K image, while Quantel, busy in the effects equipment market, felt that 3K did the job. |

Canon C300 Review
Canon's highly anticipated C300 camera is their first offering to the 'digital cinema' market. The camera was released amid a meticulously planned marketing campaign, which created a hype not seen since the Red One camera's introduction in 2006. |

Production Spotlight
On Friday 10th September, Fluidmoves Video Productions, filmed a new outfall pipe leaving Shoreham Harbour on the Sussex coast. The 1.8 kilometre pipe was towed out to sea through the open lock gates round to Newhaven Harbour, a distance of 15 nautical miles, on behalf of Southern Water and its contractor 4Delivery. The outfall is part of Southern Waters £300 million environmental improvement scheme to bring cleaner seas to Sussex. |
