Grading BBC Sounds
The BBC has launched its new personalised music, radio and podcast app with a campaign that follows one listener’s journey from meeting Kylie Minogue in a lift to Idris Elba on a bus.
BBC Sounds offers a single home for the BBC’s thousands of hours of audio content, including live and on-demand shows and special music mixes curated by artists.
BBC Creative, the broadcaster’s in-house creative division, took the brief to agency Riff Raff Films and Megaforce directing duo of Charles Brisgand and Raphaël Rodriguez who in turn brought on board regular collaborators Time Based Arts.

Your two week editing future
So here we are - January again! Usually a good time to reflect on the year just gone by, and a good time to look forward to the coming months as the new year begins.
When I was reflecting on my 2018, and when thinking about what to write for my first article for Kit Plus - I kept coming back to one theme - organisation.

Accelerated Workflows with eGPU
From the UK’s National Trust to magazine publishers to manufacturers, digital content creator Mike Griggs has a wide and varied portfolio of clients for whom he creates 3D art, motion graphics and multimedia exhibits. A typical day might involve sampling birdsong near Virginia Woolf’s country estate or creating 3D animations for VR. To keep on top of these demands, Griggs wanted to take the full power of the GPU computing revolution on the road. |

Cloud Editing at BVE
As Media Partners at BVE 2015 KitPlus was responsible for recording, editing and publishing 50+ hours of video content from the event seminars, roaming reporters and studio discussions over the course of the show. With material coming from different sources, crew and post-production staff consisting largely of students with varying levels of proficiency and tight timelines thrown into the mix we needed a post-production solution that was quick to set up, easy to learn and provided a creative and reliable solution. After chatting with Forbidden Technologies for a while we decided to use their Forscene platform. |

Studio furniture at the cutting edge
Custom Consoles was established in 1996 to meet the market demand for efficient and robust studio furniture at accountant-friendly prices. That may sound trite but we were working in SI roles ourselves and knew from direct experience how difficult it was to commission third-party desks built to the high standards our clients needed. As the company's name reflects, we specialised from the start in producing furniture tailored to the specific technical requirements and room dimensions appropriate to each project. Our objective was to reduce capital costs wherever possible. Custom Consoles built its name on the design and manufacture of bespoke furniture to a client base that includes the BBC, Channel 4, Carlton, TV4 Sweden, and Sony. |

Still unsure about cloud editing? Read this..
For all the talk about the cloud in the past couple of years, it can still be a bit of a mystery. When it comes to editing video in the cloud, some people still struggle with the concept. Is cloud editing secure? Do I need special knowledge? Why switch from traditional editing workflows? Won't cloud editing use a lot of bandwidth, especially with 4K video? Those are fair questions, and ones that often keep people from incorporating the cloud into their workflows. |

Increase productivity while editing
Using non-linear editing software (NLEs) and digital audio workstations (DAWs) are staples of multimedia editors around the world. Many professionals use an NLE on a Windows PC or a Mac such as Adobe Premiere, FinalCut Pro, Sony Vegas or Avid Media Composer or edit music or sound with a DAW such as Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, Logic Pro, Propellerhead Reason or others. Professionals are not the only ones editing. We are now in the age of prosumers (consumers using pro equipment) using HD smartphone cameras uploading to YouTube as well as hearing music produced on home computers with programs like GarageBand and sharing with their friends on social media. There are many keyboard shortcuts to remember, and not always easy ways to navigate these programs with a mouse or keyboard. |

Bob Pank looks at Editing and the Cloud
Historically video editing has been one of those operations shaped by technology. For decades it depended on VTRs to play and record. You had to go to an edit room, usually darkened and with loads of buttons and winking lights, to get your edit done by a video editor. It was not cheap. Then, with video stored on computer discs, editing went nonlinear, was much faster and more flexible, the control interface became a GUI and costs started to come down.
