Hands-on with the Antelope PICO ultra slow motion minicam
Mel Noonan Super slow motion, or super motion, has been around for years and is mostly 3x recording speed. If you record say 3 seconds of action and play it back at normal European production frame rate you'll have 9 seconds of slow motion replay. These cameras must integrate with the live production workflow in use. SSM HD cameras are still very much in use today for fast sports like soccer.

The road to Sundance Film Festival
Kivu Ruhorahoza Things of the Aimless Wanderer, the latest feature from Rwandese filmmaker Kivu Ruhorahoza (Grey Matter) is a beautifully crafted narrative about paranoia, mistrust and misunderstandings. Premiering at this year's Sundance Film Festival, audiences can expect an arresting film that reveals a series of cryptic and loosely connected narrative shards exploring the delicate relationship between 'Westerners' and 'local Africans'.

Den Lennie How much should I charge? Is probably the most commonly asked question I receive here at F-Stop Academy. And the answer? As much as you can and your client is willing to pay. In business it is your duty to maximise your profit.

Freelance Success - Make the most of your talent
[author] I was reading the back page of The Sunday Times this morning an article by Luke Johnson of Pizza Express fame (though that description doesnt do justice to this serial entrepreneur and business investor). Todays article was about how to get rich quick. Interesting, I thought, as it made me think of all the people I know who have exactly the opposite wish for their lives. I am talking about freelancers, especially designers, editors and cameramen, who sometimes have that terrible problem ¦ having too much work. And, yes, that can be a problem. Lifestyle, not riches

How full is your spectrum?
Ian Muir Colour tuneable (Bi-Colour) LED based lamps are now increasingly commonplace in the world of Film and Broadcast. Their capacity to provide a choice of colour temperatures, usually in the realms of 3200K to 5600K, can be extremely useful. This is particularly beneficial when working in environments where setup time is at a premium, and a light source is required that matches the available ambient light.

#TVFUTURES
Raechelle Jackson The penultimate term studying Television and Broadcasting is a time to reflect upon my journey as a CCI TV manager thus far and look to the future. And as graduation starts to inch ever closer, I am now pondering the opportunities that lie ahead of me. When I think back to what I knew as I walked through the doors of the University, I can feel quite proud of how far I've come. I am much more aware of my strengths and what it takes to produce good broadcast quality television. I can't get too ahead of myself just yet however, as I still have plenty to do in my final year before I say goodbye to my student life and begin my journey exploring graduate jobs and taking that scary, exciting step into the world of employment.

A stitch in time
Thomas Dove "A stitch in time saves nine" is an old saying: essentially it is saying fix a small problem now and it will save fixing a much bigger problem later. This applies in many areas - including broadcast. Kicking the error can down the road costs a lot more to fix the problem, particularly for audio and video files - but it doesn't have to.

Walking into manufacturing with a Dedleg
Paul Zanders I've been a freelance recordist since 1999. I've been lucky enough to be busy, working with many crews on some major shows like The Apprentice, Masterchef, X Factor, Top Gear, and many documentaries and corporate videos. I've worked with some great cameramen and some fantastic sound recordists. I enjoy what I do very much but for me and fellow recordists there has always been one big problem in that we have to wear the equipment we use.

Education meets industry...
Bernard Newnham Heatherden Hall - the most famous country house you've never heard of. Famous because it has appeared in large numbers of British films from Goldfinger to Carry on Camping. Why? Because it's the original building at the UK's premier film studio - Pinewood. A fitting place, then, to hold a conference on media industry training.

Venice live productions tools go to the consumer
Tim Felstead The objective of most studio production is to cost effectively create live or as live television to which audiences will be drawn. During the process of creation, recording into media servers can either be a separate process used only for immediate replay, or can be part of a media workflow serving multiple target audiences in parallel. Rohde and Schwarz have invested heavily in its Venice Media Production Hub to ensure it is able to fulfil the requirements for the latter. A media production hub is a central component of media workflows, managing movements and transformations from one media type to another.
