Capturing the action : Ocean Communications
KitPlus The dream of any reporter is to be on the scene when a story breaks and the action and drama unfold. This happens to only a select few. Even fewer find themselves right in the middle of events as they happen. Brian Carlin knew he'd be getting good material reporting from onboard a boat competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, but not that he would end up recording how his crewmates dealt with the aftermath of their yacht hitting a reef, abandoning ship and then being stranded on a remote island.

Training for media - who should do it?
Martin Uren Simple enough to ask, but any possible answer to the question of who should train those working in the media industries, or more specifically the moving image industries, is complex and involves many interrelated factors. I would like to explore the issues, and maybe present some suggestions on how we might do a better job of preparing and engaging particularly the new entrants into our workforce in training and CPD (Continuous Professional Development).

Cloud Editing at BVE
KitPlus As Media Partners at BVE 2015 KitPlus was responsible for recording, editing and publishing 50+ hours of video content from the event seminars, roaming reporters and studio discussions over the course of the show. With material coming from different sources, crew and post-production staff consisting largely of students with varying levels of proficiency and tight timelines thrown into the mix we needed a post-production solution that was quick to set up, easy to learn and provided a creative and reliable solution. After chatting with Forbidden Technologies for a while we decided to use their Forscene platform.

Big rush with little fuss at new Birmingham broadcaster
Neil Hutchins# Big Centre TV is the latest of the new wave of UK Local TV stations, having launched on 28th February. But behind the calm and successful appearance was a frenzied period of activity, as Ofcom had only confirmed their licence just three months earlier. To get from nothing to on-air in such a short timescale was a big challenge but, with the choice of a single, integrated product range, the deadline was met with little fuss.

The changing face of film and TV
George Olver With the convergence of technologies and blurring of lines between broadcast and other forms of media, the industry has undergone a seismic shift over recent years. In 2015 half of all UK ad spend will be spent on digital, in what has been described as a "seminal moment in the history of the ad industry". Client budgets are being spread across multiple platforms, and expectations and quantity of content are dramatically increasing. How does the industry supply this demand whilst successfully adapting to the changes?
