Mr MXF thinks the future is bright
Bruce Devlin I have had the good fortune to spend some time with students at Southampton Solent, The University of Surrey, Ravensbourne and Godalming College in the last few weeks. Although student numbers are down on the technology courses, enthusiasm is high and the passion for the broadcast and media industry is evident in the eyes of the stars of tomorrow.

Following the Ravensbourne 3: Ruth Matos manages her time
Ruth Matos During the past three months at university I was extremely busy with my projects, and unfortunately had to give up a lot of outside opportunities that came along. As I am in the third year of my course I had to give priority to my university projects. Nevertheless I had a hectic schedule and had to be good at managing my time.

Alice Chant: Following the Ravensbourne 3
Alice Chant As I had suspected a busy, new term has been presented to me. All of a sudden, I can't quite believe my three years at University will be over in a matter of months. It only feels like yesterday that I arrived feeling terribly nervous and so full of hope and expectations.

Alex Fine: Following the Ravensbourne 3
Alex Fine A lot of young people studying film production such as myself are always looking to set up as a film production company. We do little jobs where we make studio diaries for young (or old on the rare occasion) musicians; low budget music videos, [very] short films about nothing in particular, or corporate videos with clich© dolly- moves and scratchy sound.

Ruth Matos: Part 4 of following the Ravensbourne 3
Ruth Matos

I have always been very dedicated to any projects and ambitions in life. When I started my studies at university I was fully focused on achieving the best grades possible and my coursework was my main priority in life. This was the frame of mind I had during my first and second years at university until an opportunity to work in a feature film production came along.

Following the Ravensbourne 3 - part 3

Part 2 following the Ravensbourne 3
N/A Last month in the intro issue I described what I did in the past as a hobby and a hopeful branch of my career. Time-lapse is an integral part of what I do and I am eager to develop my skills in it. I had such a chance at the end of October when I got my hands on a Dynamic Perception Stage Zero 6ft Dolly track with MX2 Controller. I felt this was quite a feat of engineering but it had its flaws and wasnt always simple to use, but the results trump the ergonomic faults that my associates and I had when using it.

So why bother with training?
N/A There are thousands of young people who are very enthusiastic and want to work in the industry but have no little or no training but are attracted to the glamour, excitement and 'high pay'.

The #BVEXPO Great Experiment
N/A NAB, IBC and Broadcast Video Expo share one thing - they play to a global audience for TV and film production, post-production and distribution. Its not practical to get along to all the shows so there is an increasing trend to report for that global audience. BV Expo is currently the only show without a dedicated multimedia channel.

Getting the basics right
N/A In this column in the last issue of TV-Bay I wrote that, thanks to technology, some jobs in broadcast are now more suited to people who have no broadcast training. It was, in the way of columns at the backs of magazines, more a call for comment than a reasoned argument.
