Radio cameras bring a live broadcast to life
Tony Valentino Radio cameras bring a live broadcast to life - especially news, sports and studio shows - by their ability to roam around and move in closer to a subject. They capture a more natural spectator's view than a camera that is fixed at one point, and usually get the most intimate shots and the most exciting angles in a production. Today they are indispensable for covering large outdoor events - but if they have a weakness, it is probably the antenna.

Covering the Winter Games for Broadcast
Mel Noonan This was written a few days before the opening ceremony so news arriving from the front line is of last minute angst for some of the tech teams who go out and perform daily miracles in such unuser-friendly locations year after year. Camera platforms erected in the wrong place, cables lost under a recent snowfall, cables eventually found but now destroyed by an avalanche...you know the kind of thing. All this and more just in the last few days. There needs to be medals for the tech teams.

High speed camera system technology
Steve Cotterill Say you want to enhance your live TV coverage of a sporting event with slow motion. For some time now, the only alternative to standard 25fps based replays would have been replays from supermotion 75fps cameras manufactured by Sony or Philips.

The Modern Solution - Just Add Carbon!
N/A Traditionally, getting in and among the action and seeing the true grit, determination and suffering of sporting competitors - be it filming something such as International Ironman competitions with cross terrain transitions from land through to water and back to land - speeds from a sprint, to a swim to a high speed cycle, Formula One pit stops or preparation for Oxford/Cambridge boat race remains expensive although very little has changed over the years.

The evolving art of sports television
N/A Given the choice of watching a major live event on site or via television, most people would opt for the real thing. Sure, you have to get to the venue, perhaps queue to buy a ticket, find your seat or maybe stand for hours. If it is a football match, the audience in front will probably stand up for a better view of each goal, completely blocking your view. But you are there and you feel part of it.

Intercom for Sports Production

Putting Your Sports Announcers in the Best Light

Eye to Eye: Sports Production
N/A I was somewhat crestfallen to receive the advice 'Lay off 3D' when I rang TV Bay for guidance on the theme for this month's Eye to Eye. For better or worse, 3D looks set to be a major part of sports television in the coming years. But I picked up my crest, closed one eye and carried on running.
