Lessons Learnt - Webcasting live to the web
Larry Jordan# When I first started in this industry, more than 40 years ago, live television broadcasts were plentiful and popular. In fact, I got my start as a director in live television. However, the only way to create a live broadcast was with lots of equipment, large crews and plenty of money.

Making the second screen work
Mark Christie The majority of consumers watch television with a smartphone or a tablet in their hands. This is a genuine demand: consumers love the second screen. The key is for broadcasters to embrace it as an opportunity, and to ensure that the content and the portal for it, are under their control.

So what is Digital Television - Part 1
N/A It is tempting to think of digital television as something very scientific and even complex. But when we view the end result, we find something very familiar; something television engineers have sought since the very beginning¦an experience that just keeps getting better and better¦quality video and audio conveying great entertainment, sport, movies, and news to the viewing audience. The only thing new in digital television is the way the message gets from here to there.

Television camera lenses
N/A This is a glass-to-glass report with a difference, starting at front-end of the video production chain and staying there. Given the speed of development in almost every other branch of television, it is easy to overlook the advances taking place in optics. Until, that is, you need a wider capture angle than your existing kit can deliver or you want to post-repair a barrel-distorted Nelson's Column to remove the hint of banana.

A brief history of television graphics
N/A Thirty years ago, television captions were routinely created by sticking white Letraset characters onto black card. Credit rolls were possible using special devices which used long strips of black material onto which the Letraset was stuck, and which were literally rolled, either by an electric motor but sometimes even by hand.
