Taking on a self employed placement year
Joshua Round The idea of being self-employed or freelancing has always been somewhat terrifying for me. There is a level of uncertainty and responsibility that comes with the freedom of being self-employed, the likes of which makes me wonder why I chose to give it a go for my placement year as part of my university course - (BSc) Television and Broadcasting.

What is next after University
Ruta Kairyte

I currently find myself in between two landmark moments. A few weeks ago I was completely immersed in producing live television content, and in a few weeks time I will become an official BSc (Hons) Television & Broadcasting graduate from the University of Portsmouth. When I look back at who I was in my first year of university, I remember a shy girl from the other side of Europe, unsure at whether a career in television was the right path to take. Now, after three years of university, I can definitely say that I made the best choice of my life by choosing this degree. I’m leaving university confident and motivated, knowing that I made the right choice in study, and I really want that career in the television industry.

Have Lorry will Broadcast - NHS70
Charlie Watts One thing that has become a permanent offering here at the University of Portsmouth is our focus on big, outside broadcasts that we offer to students studying BSc Televisions and Broadcasting. Students spent their third year making multiple live programmes, but as they reach the months of April and May, we shift the experience to something that is external, and from a different location.

TV Futures, Tales on Location
Georgia Thirtle If I think back to last May, I was just finishing my second year at the University of Portsmouth, studying Television and Broadcasting, and winding down for the summer. Then out of the blue I got a message from my course leader, saying I might be getting a call from someone who was a location manager working for Raider productions, you know, the production company behind the upcoming Tomb Raider film, I mean, what!?

TVFutures: Learning is the key
Abbie Neill If you asked me the question ‘where do you see yourself after you graduate’ three years ago I would have probably answered  ‘in a lot of debt, but if you don't think about it, it doesn't exist because three years is a long time right ?’. WRONG! These three years studying Television and Broadcasting at the University of Portsmouth have been the quickest three years of my life. Back when I started I didn't really have any idea what I wanted to specialise in and the dreaded four letter word AVID used to be my biggest enemy. However I persevered through the 3792871 hours of lectures learning how to use the software, how it functions, neither did I think I'd be a one woman match of the day by graduation'.

Managing Talent
Nicole Inanc Presenting for television is a talent that is critically competitive. Budding presenters around the world produce showreels, attend acting schools and fight to be the next Ant and Dec¦ but what is it exactly that makes a successful television presenter? As a wannabe TV presenter myself, I wanted to explore the exact process talent managers follow when finding the next big thing and whether I have exactly what it takes.

TV Futures - Running around for clients

Lloyd Ashton University radio is a great starting platform- hearing something being broadcast that started out as a few ideas in a notebook is quite incredible. My name is Lloyd Ashton and I'm currently a third year Television and Broadcasting student at the University of Portsmouth. Over the past three years, I have been introduced to many modes of broadcasting, yet it's radio that has left an everlasting impression.

Media acquisition and Archive Workflow
Ryan Jenkins Hello, I am Ryan Jenkins, a third year student at the University of Portsmouth and as part of my final year on the BSc Television and Broadcasting course, I am the Post Production manager for all television teams making live programmes, something we specialise in. My role has thus far seen me design a workflow that involves archiving footage from our made VTs, and then storing them for future use for cutaways and other archival reasons. Here is a little of something that I have learnt in my attempt to create a fully operable archive system - I hope it will improve how we work.

Streaming graduation
Charlie Watts Graduation is a big deal for students, families and for the degree awarding institutions, and so it has been this way in Portsmouth since 1995. Now twenty years later it should come as no surprise that the University of Portsmouth has elevated the Graduation Ceremony Broadcasting Operation into something so organised that it runs like a refined and well oiled Swiss watch.

Callum O Leary I made it! So here we are, the last feature to write for Kit Plus and the end of my time as a BSc (Hons) Television and Broadcasting student at the University of Portsmouth. Every election counts
Charlie Watts Let me set the scene. In September 2014 we were contacted by ITV Meridian News and asked if we would be interested in helping film declarations from the Hampshire and Sussex constituencies. It was just before the start of the new academic year, and we figured, sure, that's months away, why not! And so begun the slow build up to what we believe was a U.K first, with Meridian arranging to work with HE institutions in the South of the country to gather a wider and more comprehensive recording of election counts.

Several deadlines have come and gone, and my CCI management of Script Editing has slowed down. Raechelle Jackson The penultimate term studying Television and Broadcasting is a time to reflect upon my journey as a CCI TV manager thus far and look to the future. And as graduation starts to inch ever closer, I am now pondering the opportunities that lie ahead of me. When I think back to what I knew as I walked through the doors of the University, I can feel quite proud of how far I've come. I am much more aware of my strengths and what it takes to produce good broadcast quality television. I can't get too ahead of myself just yet however, as I still have plenty to do in my final year before I say goodbye to my student life and begin my journey exploring graduate jobs and taking that scary, exciting step into the world of employment.

The business of University: Or lack thereof
Ashley Golder University. Finally a time of critical thinking, training for your future career and coming out with enough knowledge to confidently acquire a job... or rather that is the plan. But what if that doesn't happen? When the £9,000 a year tuition fee, plus the expense of living costs rear their ugly heads and the invoice is sent in the post asking for loan repayment, do you think: was it really worth the money?

Callum O Leary Let's be honest here, most students today are very engaged with social media, why wouldn't they be? In the past few years, social media has developed hugely; not just as something you use as a pastime on your desktop or laptop, but a multi-million pound business. It's where the people are. And where the people are is where the advertisers follow. Television has embraced social media as an area where users can interact, take part in competitions and so much more- and almost anything else goes.

Alex Fine A lot of young people studying film production such as myself are always looking to set up as a film production company.
