The changing face of streaming
Jake Ward I have been in the streaming business for more than 20 years and I've witnessed a number of major shifts in the industry. Currently we are experiencing such a shift as we see a massive increase in users viewing content but also a sea change in how it's being discovered and viewed. Over the last few years there has been a continual rise in the use of online video, with Cisco predicting 82% of all Internet traffic will be video by 2020 . By 2020 there will be nearly a million minutes of video content being delivered every second. The sheer volume of video makes it more important to understand how to ensure your content reaches its audience.

Bob Pank# NAB 2013 will go down in history as the event where the broadcast industry took to the Cloud in a big way. Perhaps it was the number of start-ups that have been successfully operating cloud services for a year, but more likely, these moves have been in the pipeline for a while.

Eye to Eye: Video over IP
N/A Live video streaming via Internet Protocol is perhaps most familiar in the form of Skypes free-of-charge online videophone service. Skype is a very easy way for an on-location broadcaster to get a video contribution back to base. A safer and more conventional technique, as with a reporter-to-anchor interview, is to live-stream video via ones own IP encoder straight into the studio for immediate viewing over a terrestrial and/or satellite network. If time is not so critical, the story can simply be emailed as a file straight out of the reporters camcorder.

Eye to Eye on Delivery and Distribution
N/A A notable aspect of the 2010 IBC and 2011 NAB conference sessions was the rapidly increasing focus on IP streaming. Fibre-optic delivery to the home has yet to be turned into widespread reality but transport speeds over existing electrical infrastructure continue to accelerate.

Automation in Uncertain Times
