Freelance finance
Peter Savage 2 As a freelance cameraman working on varied productions, you need to be sure you always have the right kit for the job. Acquiring the latest equipment is a necessity, not a luxury; the difficulty is being certain you will be able to manage the cost. How can a freelancer be sure he can finance his equipment?

Talking Steadicam and Exovest
David Crute There were only about 10 UK Steadicam operators when I started, and very few that owned a rig. It was a massive investment for me as a young cameraman. The reason I did it was very simply that I found myself in this unusual position of doing both film and video work. I enjoyed working in both drama and in television.

Freelance Success - Make the most of your talent
[author] I was reading the back page of The Sunday Times this morning an article by Luke Johnson of Pizza Express fame (though that description doesnt do justice to this serial entrepreneur and business investor). Todays article was about how to get rich quick. Interesting, I thought, as it made me think of all the people I know who have exactly the opposite wish for their lives. I am talking about freelancers, especially designers, editors and cameramen, who sometimes have that terrible problem ¦ having too much work. And, yes, that can be a problem. Lifestyle, not riches

My first Christmas without any regular source of income!!
N/A I love Christmas. The food, the music, the presents, being with family, boxing day sales, more food. However I don't like not working. Actually scrap that. I don't like not earning. Christmas presents, whilst are a pleasure to give, are a considerable drain on the bank account. And to similar extent, Boxing day sales. Oh my. And it was my sister's 18th birthday on Boxing day. December is just expensive in general. Especially as this was my first Christmas without any regular source of income.

Following the alien route of a freelancer
N/A I don't like mushrooms. Slugs of the culinary world. Growing up I was forced to eat them (apparently they're good for you?), but now, at the grand old age of 19, I have to confess that I still don't like mushrooms.

Guaranteed Income or working freelance
N/A Now, Im a chatty person, and can quite happily make conversation, but when it comes to promoting myself, and the work that I do, I tend to stay quiet. Whilst this might be fine working in retail, it wont serve me well as a freelance production assistant!
