Light weight 3D side-by-side production
N/A Whenever you see a typical publicity picture of a 3D production shoot, it invariably includes a very bulky and expensive-looking mirror rig. This can look daunting for the new initiate coming into 3D production and is not the sort of kit you might not want to risk using outdoors.

The evolving art of sports television
N/A Given the choice of watching a major live event on site or via television, most people would opt for the real thing. Sure, you have to get to the venue, perhaps queue to buy a ticket, find your seat or maybe stand for hours. If it is a football match, the audience in front will probably stand up for a better view of each goal, completely blocking your view. But you are there and you feel part of it.

A new era in slow-motion?
N/A Those readers who watch sports programmes on a regular basis may have noticed that many productions now have high speed cameras providing so called ultra-motion replays as a part of slow motion sequences. These cameras have been in use for many years in such areas as crash testing and sports training, but until recently the quality of the image has not been high enough for inclusion in mainstream broadcasting.

Taking the pain out of collaborative editing
N/A Broadcast and post-production companies face the daily challenge of delivering more for less both in terms of time and money. Whilst the industry has been quick to embrace the efficiencies of file-based workflows and enhancements in the creative editing process, the reality - for companies of all sizes - is that the effective and secure management of media data remains complex and expensive.

Casual specs
N/A If you are a regular reader of this column, you probably know by now that I am a lover of technology that is useful, or at least very attractive. On the other hand I am quite scornful of stuff that engineers come up with because they can, without ever having an idea of what it is for.

Cloud Matter Part 1 - Fear of Fluff!
Bob Pank# Although Im writing this article in the usual way, by sitting at my desk and tapping on my keyboard, the only app running on my computer is the web browser. I can see the article on the screen but have no idea where its being stored. Still I have every confidence that it will be instantly recalled whenever I want it.... provided my modem and Internet service hold up. This is on Google Documents and I am writing into the Cloud. The funny thing is that, for my requirements, its almost exactly the same as many other word processors except it automatically saves the document whenever I make a change.

Want to take the road?
N/A When 3D Storm started the MINI LiveManTM project, the concept was to showcase the latest production systems developed by NewTek TM. Two key words: Compact, all-terrain. MINI cars were used at several occasions as OB vehicles. NewTek toured the United States with a MINI, then with a Smart, showing that there was no need of a truck to fit in production equipments. SIS LIVE also showed that a MINI Clubman could be mounted with an antenna to broadcast live.

My first BVE
N/A This was my first BVE, and the last one that would be at Earls Court. It had a very different atmosphere to the rest of the shows I've been to. It was very friendly and a lot more relaxed. I guess for a lot of people, this is their home show, which helps. Also, it was all in one hall, which made navigating a lot easier! It also meant that our cameraman, Callum (we traded in Simon for a newer model), could have the camera on a dolly for the majority of the videos.
