New design for BBC dubbing facility ADVENT FlyDrive 120 Antenna gets Eutelsat approval Joining the very short short-list E P utelsat, one of the top three satellite operators in the world, has granted highly coveted approval of VISLINKs ADVENT Flydrive 120 Antenna for inclusion in Eutelsats guide to the selection of the most appropriate earth station equipment to access Eutelsat capacity. The ADVENT Flydrive 120 has been fully tested by Eutelstat for RF performance and its ability to auto-point point and peak an antenna to the Eutelsat fleet without the need for expert operators. Eutelsat provides more than 3800 channels beamed from a fleet of 29 satellites covering up to 150 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. www.vislink.com anasonic’s AG-HPX250 P2 camcorder is now BBC approved for HD production. It is named in the HD Handheld category, a list that comprises only five cameras. Of these, the HPX250 is one of only three that are authorised for on-board capture, rather than needing an external recorder. Weighing only 2.5 kg and designed to be highly portable, the HPX250 packs advanced features into its compact body: its 3x 1/3” sensors capture full 1920 x 1080 10 bit 4:2:2 video, recording to the AVC-Intra codec up-to 100 Mb/s on Panasonic P2 cards. Other features include best in class low light performance, variable frame rate shooting and 22x zoom lens that offers the 35mm equivalent of 28mm to 616mm. At around £4,500, and with no need for expenditure on additional recording devices, the HPX250 represents excellent value. As a hand- held camera, it is the most affordable route to producing HD to the technical standard required by the BBC. R oath Lock, BBC Cymru Wales newly opened studios in the Welsh Government owned Porth Teigr area of Cardiff Bay (formerly Roath Basin), includes a new dubbing suite which was designed by Munro Acoustics. The technology is built around the console, the latest DFC Gemini console from AMS Neve, as used in several other BBC dubbing theatres. The desk features 16 faders providing 4 layers and 6 banks giving some 384 channels of audio.  The new suite will provide dubbing facilities for two programmes produced by BBC Wales, specifically Pobol y Cwm and Casualty.  The Munro design was completed by local constructors. New features in Stream 3.7 include expanded format support including encoding to the Panasonic AVC-Intra format; 64-bit operating system support; cue point insertion for live streaming with Adobe® Flash® technologies; and enhanced H.264 and MPEG-2 encoding.
