With the Olympics, Euro football and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to name just a few 2012 events then we’re certainly set for a big year of live production and no doubt a plethora of 3D content and continued 3DTV growth in our living rooms. Apparently half of all British women tuned in to watch BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing late last year so showing the final in 3D just before Christmas must have done something to whet the appetites of those, in my experience, that often need convincing a new TV set is a good idea! A good, 3D enabled, neighbour invited us round, we donned the glasses and we were set, surely after me enduring such a program I would be rewarded with the green light to buy our own set? Sadly with a TV set under 2 years then even Strictly wasn’t enough! We’ll try again nearer the Olympics! It was a good chance though to spend a few hours watching 3D on a small screen as well as using the passive glasses in comparison to another neighbour’s active set. Personally I struggled to tell the difference in 3D experience, except from a guest point of view as there were lots of the passive glasses around compared to active ones. Robin Palmer gives his view on whether to go for passive or active on page 34. This issue’s focus on post production covers a vast range of equipment and as diverse as ever we bring you something you may not have heard before. How often do you sit in a post house thinking it’s too hot or too cold? Probably not often as for kit and clients the temperature needs to be right and whatever is doing the cooling or heating should not be intrusive, visually and more importantly audibly. For all you need to know for the right temperature without the headache take a look on page 52. It’s the UK’s biggest expo next month, BVE Earl’s Court 2 14-16th February and with registration now well and truly open we have a roundup of exhibitor previews starting from page 18. Peter Savage also has some good advice for exhibitors and visitors alike as the start of the annual trade show season kicks off in London on page 42. The next issue of tv-bay will be at the show. Please drop by if you are visiting, pick up a copy and say hello and as your comments and feedback are always appreciated.
