Autocue Production Suite replaces conventional devices such as vision and audio mixers, video players, picture-in-picture inserters, caption generators, still stores, chromakeyers, routers, output switchers and recorders. All those functions are contained within a single, integrated system. When combined with our existing news and production applications, we can offer the broadest, most integrated and cost-effective end- to-end workflow or “channel in a box” solution on the market today. We’ve successfully beta tested the system at the University of Bedfordshire and are now testing it more widely prior to its full launch at IBC2012. We heard about TV-Bay’s BroadcastShow at NAB and offered our demo system – a great opportunity to trial it in a live studio environment and to continually deploy and test new functionality over the coming months. The demo system also includes our newsroom system, news automation software, prompting and video server. A complete workflow solution. As a first step, two weeks before the live show, we installed and tested the demo system –  a four-port, SD- only system. We then upgraded the hardware to convert it to a seven-port HD version and reconfigured it to support 720p50 on all ports, to provide a second, switchable output to feed the in-vision monitor and to display custom lower-thirds incorporating the BroadcastShow logo. This work was only completed during the day of the live show, which didn’t leave much time for testing before going on-air. Unfortunately, a problem with the built-in output recorder occurred early on in the show and caused the interruption to the program stream. Had we been able to identify that issue earlier, there would have been several ways to resolve it. As it was, it caused a headache both during and after the show, which was a disappointment to everyone – especially as the system worked well otherwise. The other noticeable mistake was that we cut away from the Broadcast Asia report early. This was because the clip – which was produced outside of the server – was reported as being much shorter than it actually was. We now need to identify whether the cause was the format of the clip itself or the system’s handling of it, especially as clips that were recorded directly onto the server did display the correct duration. With the experience of the first show behind us, we plan to make a number of changes, either through reconfiguration or new software development: »» Improve the functionality for pre- records to allow clips to be marked on the fly and previewed easily »» Provide audio when clips are playing back during the live show, to allow the studio to see and hear the current material »» Add tally handling, through extra hardware and new software, so that it is clear which camera is currently switched to air »» Add a new bars-and-tone generator to provide a reference level for setup of external devices such as the sound desk and streaming system »» Extend the existing caption handling to provide a new vertical scroll tool, to allow rolling credits to be displayed at the end of the show »» Add logo handling to the program output, so that it can be turned on and off during the course of the show »» Review the overall infrastructure to provide basic functionality even if the main system is not running info@autocue.com to ask any questions about the system… @broadcastshow @NickRedditch enjoyed being involved in the @ broadcastshow last night, great pizza! .................................................................... @Mediakinetic @broadcastshow i want to see steffan jumping up and down on the pelicase! .................................................................... @manormarketing @TheIABM or checkout Broadcastshow Live from @tvbay .................................................................... @mrphoto 1st Broadcast show live was excellent!
