Editor Simon Tillyer, simon@tv-bay.com The 2012 calendar of sport is not quite over with the Paralympic games taking place and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers kicking off soon, the main event though was, in my opinion, such a brilliant success at all levels that it will be a while before anything else is not an anti-climax! Production Editor Matt Robbins, matt@tv-bay.com Advertising Jonathan Highett,jonathan@tv-bay. com The viewing share of the 2012 London Games exceeded 80% for the opening and closing ceremonies with a staggering 27.3m people watching the opening on the BBC. As far as events are concerned it was somewhat unsurprising that the much hyped 100 metre final came in first with 20m followed by the brilliant Mo Farah watched by over 17m winning gold in the 10,000 metres. It was billed as the first truly digital games with a global 55 million viewers of BBC Sport Online. There are of course many mind blowing statistics, my particular favourite though was that the busiest 24 hour online period delivering some 2.8 petabytes peaking with Bradley Wiggins demanding over 700 gigabits per second as he stormed to victory! It’s timely that this issue is heavily storage and archive orientated as every moment of the London 2012 Olympic Games is available at bbc.co.uk/sport until 13 January 2013. The term “cloud” has become part of our daily vocabulary, we know what it is, we know how to use it and most of use probably have a few free accounts with providers at least. What we don’t know though is where it is and just who is looking after our precious content. Should we be concerned, will we ever be able to find our projects again and do we need to hard back-up just in case? This month Bob Pank digs into what it all means with Will Strauss looking at a metadata approach to your archives. We’ve got the latest news together with an Olympic review from Polecam, a case study involving BBC Studios together with all the regulars in this feature packed IBC show issue. If you’re at IBC then please pop by to see us, just above the beach, and in the meantime…. Enjoy the issue...
