Global immersion for GSX giant screen theater Q ube Cinema recently supplied its XP-I server and Xi 4K Integrated Media Blocks (IMBs) for Global Immersion’s first GSX giant flat screen theater installed at the Peoria Riverfront Museum (PRM) in Illinois. This 4K 3D system brings the world’s highest resolution digital giant screen display to the newly opened theater. This is the first installation of the 4K by 3K GSX giant screen cinema system, providing visitors to the museum with the immersive experience afforded by stunning 3D digital imagery. The installation uses a single Qube XP-I server, streaming 3D DCI content to two synchronized Xi 4K IMBs in two 4K DCI-compliant projectors. An additional server, provided by Global Immersion, combined with their Imagefusion(tm) technology, will deliver 4:3 and alternative formats and media streams, allowing for unrestricted access to movies, as well as alternative media and live content. Speeding ahead at the World Rally Championship E urovision Production Coordination (EPC) had just three weeks to select a broadcast production system for its HD coverage of the World Rally Championship for the 2012 WRC season.   EPC required a system that could be built and tested within three weeks of the initial contract agreement, ready for the use at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, with editors and producers fully trained in this time. The ability to integrate GoPro files was also a key consideration for EPC when selecting a system as a lot of footage comes directly from GoPro cameras fitted in the rally cars themselves. And finally, the system had to have easy handling of HD material and quick time- to-air as EPC would be shooting the seasons programming entirely in HD with a very short turnaround time between rally heats. Quantel’s Enterprise sQ fast- turnaround production system was selected as the winning tender, successfully meeting EPCs key criteria.  EPCs Quantel Enterprise sQ fast-turnaround production system runs the latest V5 software and supports file-based workflows with excellent handling of HD material. The system includes 200+ hours HD workspace, with finished files archived at the end of each rally. Video and file ingest are handled by sQ Record and sQ Load applications. Three sQ View and five sQ Edit stations provide timeline viewing and editing, with playout under the control of sQ Play. The system also includes a Quantel Qube craft editor for graphics template creation and a Final Cut Pro system for feature clips production. The crew put together six ten-minute news feeds during each rally showing the day’s highlights and three 26 minute daily highlights programs per rally (one shown at the end of each rally day), all full productions with music, commentary and effects. At the end of the rally a longer 52 minute program is produced, again fully edited with music, commentary and effects.
