Not only are we getting deep into trade show season but also the award
ceremonies have well and truly kicked off, love ‘em or hate ‘em the
gongs are being handed out to the good and the great in all walks of life.
In the same way the Olympics and World Cup are the pinnacle of athletic and football
accolades then the Oscars is the award that is arguably the most prestigious and
widely sought after.
Although in its 85 year it hasn’t been going quite as long as one of the recipients this
year. Notching up over 100 years in the filmmaking business is Cooke Optics receiving
an Academy Award ® of Merit (an Oscar ® ) for “continuing innovation” in its motion
picture camera lenses.
th With an intolerant attitude to intolerances the stunning Cooke lenses have been equally
at home in the South Pole with Scott and Shackleton as they were at the top of Everest
and more recently at Royal weddings. Since the beginning of our industry Cooke have
been there and we should raise a glass to them for their innovation and passion in
creating first class optics, proudly produced in Leicester, UK where generations of the
same family work side by side. You can read more about Cooke on page 70.
So what better month for this award to coincide with than our lenses and
acquisition issue – it’s as if we planned it! Within this tv-bay Magazine
you’ll find a wealth of information covering lenses, grip and lighting – if you
watched the most recent BroadcastShow LIVE virtual set special then the
green screen lighting article on page 76 was our bible for the studio set-up day! You
can watch the recorded show by scanning the QR code here.
If you’re picking this up at BVE then well done for getting here – the journey wasn’t too
bad was it? Drop by stand K10 and say hello – to get a regular copy just go to the web
site and subscribe! If you’re a CABSAT visitor new to tv-bay Magazine then to freely
read our increasing popular online issue each month just visit
www.tv-bay.com/magazine where you’ll also find the back
issues in digital format.
Wherever you’re reading this we hope you enjoy it as
much as we did putting it together.
