elcome to issue 80.
It’s the time of year when manufacturers and distributors are busy planning for
IBC (Amsterdam 13th-17th September) and getting straight down to business
in his column this month Will Strauss predicts the show will be bristling with talk
of 4K, the Cloud, IP networking and Immersive Audio, so turn to page 40 to see read more
on these four themes.
You can get a further taste of what IBC has in store for you in this month’s show preview.
Along with our regular news we bring you the latest product announcements that you can
expect to see unveiled in September which even at this early stage will surely whet your
appetite. If you’re not able to make it to IBC this year then worry not! We’re partnering with Holdan
and Teradek to build a studio on the show floor (Hall 11 if you’re there, please drop by)
where we’ll stream daily live shows for the duration. Expect exhibitor interviews, hosted
discussions and chaired panel shows on all number of subjects. All of this can be viewed via
the brand new BroadcastShow website (still at www.broadcastshow.com of course).
How did you get into this industry? College, uni, work experience, helping a mate in trouble,
by accident…? However it was, it’s the time of year when 3rd year students who have
recently graduated from the many media and broadcast colleges around the UK turn out
seeking paid work in the real world. Those regular readers will have been keeping up to
date with Alex, Ruth and Alice who we’ve been “following” over the last year and have just
graduated from Ravensbourne. The contacts and experience they have built over the last
3 years should stand them in good stead for their futures and you can read the concluding
part of their educational journey on page 44.
The feature of this month is content management, security and archiving which, given two
of the predicted dominant themes of IBC are 4K and the Cloud, is well timed with issues of
content collaboration through to archive all being covered within as well as LTFS… …what?
Turn to page 46 to learn more.
If you’ve not yet registered for IBC then just visit
www.ibc.org and visit www.broadcastshow.com to catch up
with exhibitor stand interviews uploaded daily and of course
the aforementioned live shows.
Enjoy the issue.
