Magazine Office PO Box 6090, Newbury, RG14 9BB, UK WELCOME ISSUE 87: MARCH 2014 W How to subscribe All subscription enquiries UK and overseas online at: www.tv-bay.com/subscribe Switchboard +44 (0)1635 237 237 www.tv-bay.com Editor Simon Tillyer, simon@tv-bay.com Production Editor Matt Robbins, matt@tv-bay.com elcome to issue 87. If you managed to get to BVE then hopefully you had time to stop by and say hello, if you didn’t then you may have caught some of the content from the BVE channel where live panel shows, discussion and interviews were streamed live from the fl oors of ExCeL. We were indeed practicing what is being preached in this issue of tv-bay where the featured topic is “connected”. In partnership with BVE our studio at the heart of the show saw over 15k viewers over the three days with all the recorded content now being available both on the BVE website and on the event page of www.broadcastshow.com. With many manufacturers supporting the studio in terms of equipment loans we also welcomed students from Ravensbourne and Westminster Universities to the team. We’ve reported in recent issues about training the next generation and this sort of experience is a huge learning curve in all respects. Yes there were a few issues and lessons learned along the way but it was an overwhelmingly positive experience for those involved. One of the shows streamed from BVE featured a new build truck called Mildred. On the sofa we chatted to 3xScreen who run the vehicle as well as two manufacturers who are both instrumental in the workfl ow deployed (Google: Mildred at BVE). You can read in-depth all about this next generation of OB van on page 58. Trucks continue to be a theme, as you’d expect when the word “connected” is mentioned, with bonded solutions for fi eld crews in Sochi as well as an OB trolley you may have seen the BBC wheeling around the winter games (see page 98)! If you’re looking for a 4k technical article then where better to start than an overview of the world’s fi rst 4k theatre broadcast of War Horse that recently took place. This no doubt sets the scene for broadcasting live events, sport in particular, in 4k around the world in the near future. We’re getting set for NAB in April where you’ll be able to tune into the daily tv-bay BroadcastShow live show each afternoon (UK time) and the NAB preview pages in this issue will no doubt whet your appetite.
