Magazine Office PO Box 6090, Newbury, RG14 9BB, UK WELCOME ISSUE 88: APRIL 2014 W How to subscribe All subscription enquiries UK and overseas online at: www.tv-bay.com/subscribe Switchboard +44 (0)1635 237 237 www.tv-bay.com Editor Simon Tillyer, simon@tv-bay.com Production Editor Matt Robbins, matt@tv-bay.com elcome to issue 88 The “extreme” issue of tv-bay…. So what exactly does that entail? Gear as rugged as an ice road trucker with a hangover (p.42) or is there something more to be uncovered… ? Each month we feature an element of the industry and once a year, aptly timed with the extremeness of Las Vegas, we look at a side where not many have boldy gone before and a side that can only be termed “extreme”! In this issue we look at fi xing a shoot in a country with a past that could send shivers down many a production manager’s spine, capturing data for a three day kayak adventure, fi lming from the edge (and we really mean the edge) and the tears, tantrums and triumphs involved in capturing all the action of the Dakar Rally. When putting issues together we often focus on the kit used in production or being promoted by the manufacturer but one thing that stands out in this issue is the people behind the gear. Ok, you need ruggedized cases and as much protection as you can afford but ultimately the gear is the same, just in a different environment with anything from one man crews to teams of intrepid professionals operating outside of most people’s comfort zone to capture the action. The stories within are sure to both raise a smile as well as inspire, after all if the gear works for them it should work anywhere – right? Back to NAB where, interestingly, in 2013 the largest attendance demographic came from Europe with 33% of the total and although we won’t boldly go where no man has gone before, we will be bringing a host of video interviews, product launches and news to you in the coming weeks.
