Welcome ISSUE 100: APRIL 2015 www.kitplus.com R ewind 10 years and to set the scene a group of industry colleagues gathered around a pool at the annual Quantel NAB party in Las Vegas. The conversation turned to what we were planning to do and went along the lines of “we’re thinking of starting a printed version of the website, a printed monthly guide of kit for sale”. More than one of the group expressed concern, “isn’t print dead?”, “no one will read paper in a year or two”, “why would you do print if it’s online..?” the comments flowed. Fuelled by our normal determination and the will to produce something that we would want to read issue 1 of the magazine launched at Broadcast Live in June 2006 with 20 or so pages of equipment listings. 2000 copies flew off the stand and we were off. It’s all credit to the team at tv-bay who have created this 100 th issue of what we now know as KitPlus. That team extends far further than from within our offi ces with thanks due to the many journalists and commentators who have provided expert comment and opinion together with your stories and reviews. Dealers, distributors and manufacturers have all played a crucial part and without whose support we wouldn’t be able to function. So full circle we are back to NAB, 10 years on and although we are still reading words on paper, the landscape has continued to change beyond recognition. Larry Jordan, who has been visiting NAB since time began, takes a look back at what we now view as primitive software with time passing but with technology never standing still. If you crave some further nostalgia then equally long term NAB attendee, Dick Hobbs, rekindles a review from Las Vegas in the mid 2000’s and Peter Savage, whose own company shares a similar birthday to our own, looks back at the endless change of formats and ever-decreasing kit prices of the last decade. A fi nal thanks to you for reading and for being part of the last 100 issues, if you’re reading this en-route to NAB then have a great show and do come and fi nd us.
