NEWS MOVE & DELIVER Video processing Thomson Video Networks has introduced a new virtualized edition of its ViBE VS7000 multi-screen and HEVC encoder specifi cally engineered to support cloud-based video processing for OTT and multi- screen deployments as well as traditional broadcasting. Powered by the MediaFlex video operating system, the ViBE VS7000 is a key component in Thomson Video Networks’ Behind Every Screen strategy, a video infrastructure that uses cloud resources as well as on-premises hardware and software to provide high quality video and low cost of ownership. “With ViBE VS7000 operating in virtualized mode, our customers now have more fl exibility than ever to deploy the next-generation video processing capabilities they need for today’s complex, multi-platform video delivery,” said Stephane Cloirec, director of product management at Thomson Video Networks. “Since the virtualized ViBE VS7000 is hardware-agnostic, operators are able to separate required functionality from hardware resources and reap all of the economic benefi ts of the cloud while ensuring broadcast-grade performance. For instance, adding a new channel is fast and easy; instead of having to wait for new hardware, operators can just launch a virtual machine and then deploy it when ready.” www.thomson-networks.com Playout OTT Germantown Municipal Television (GMTV) in Tennessee has chosen a complete PlayBox Technology solution for the core of its ingest, CG, graphics and playout infrastructure. Globecast will be highlighting its OTT services and a range of monetisation tools when it exhibits at the TV Connect exhibition for the fi rst time. The three services cover content preparation, content management and content delivery for linear channels as well on demand content and live events. OTT Live is for the simulcast delivery of linear channels, OTT VoD makes content catalogues available for streaming to any connected screen and OTT Event is a packaged occasional live streaming service for content owners. The monetisation tools include payment, subscriber and advertising management and analytic options. End-to-end and modular options are both available. GMTV transmits a wide variety of content ranging from classic television shows such as The Beverly Hillbillies and Dragnet to completely original programs produced locally by the students of Houston High School. As a public/educational/government-access (PEG) station, it also airs content produced by other PEG stations from around the United States. GMTV can be found on AT&T U-Verse. “The PlayBox Technology system was so easy to spin up and use,” comments GMTV Chief Engineer, Rob Manuel. “It gives GMTV the freedom to convert our video sources to digital and then operate in a fully tapeless mode from ingest right through to transmission. Source video is digitized in a CaptureBox server and transferred to a 4 terabyte local storage server.” www.playbox.tv learn all about Playbox during their interview with Den Lennie at BVE TV Connect takes place 28-30 April 2015 at Excel in London. www.globecast.com Complete Connectivity Media Fibre Network & Services Satellite Products & Services Streaming Services See us at NAB on stand OE1302 38 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 100 APRIL 2015
