NEWS MANIPULATE & EDIT OB sound Kuwait Television (KTV), Kuwait’s state-run television station, is installing a Calrec Summa audio console in its newest OB van. The Summa will allow KTV to cover a wider variety of programming and will be assigned to the broadcaster’s most significant events. Waleed Hamadah, TV broadcast engineer within the TV engineering division of the ministry of information, said: “The Summa console is a perfect fit for our ambitious goals. We have six other OB vans, and though the audio consoles in those units are more than adequate, the Summa console enables us to take our audio coverage to new heights.” Cloud editing Cross convertors Blackmagic Design has lowered the price of its Mini Converter UpDownCross to US$295. The device supports 3G-SDI and gives customers affordable up and down conversions between SD and HD video, as well as cross conversions between different HD formats. This allows users to turn SD into HD, HD into SD, or cross convert between 720 and 1080 HD formats that have the same frame rate. Grant Petty, the chief executive of Blackmagic Design, said: “Because of expanded in-house manufacturing capabilities and improved efficiencies, we’re able to offer Mini Converter UpDownCross at a more affordable price than ever.” The Mini Converter UpDownCross also features a four field standards converter. Forbidden Technologies, maker of Forscene, has appointed former Match of the Day executive producer Jim Irving as a non- executive director. Formerly at Deltatre Media, where he was responsible for all commercial activity in the UK, South Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, he also had a stint as head of digital production projects at BBC Future Media & Technology.
