NEWS MOVE & DELIVER Multiscreen Solutions Let’s face it; it’s a tough world for broadcasters. Viewers want more content, they want it live, they want it on every type of device, and they demand top video quality. At Garland, they understand that. That’s why at this year’s BVE, they have their biggest stand yet (stand L06). They will be co-exhibiting with their partner Media Excel, proven leaders in multiscreen solutions, the HERO family covers live and file transcoding workflows for on-premise, virtualised and cloud deployments. For 4k solutions, Media Excel leverages their expertise in video encoding to showcase HERO 4k. HERO 4k delivers pristine quality, real-time 4k HEVC encoding and includes a wide range of features, such as full-HD to 4k up-conversion, recording and intrinsic playout support — specifically designed to address the scarcity of 24x7 UHD content. Broadcasters everywhere are deploying LiveU’s new LU200 ultra-small transmission unit. This compact-sized, low-power, stand-alone unit lets you equip every field camera with a cellular bonding uplink unit. For those challenging encoding scenarios, Teracue’s new ENC- 400 encoder is lightweight and light on the wallet; HDMI input, H264 or MJPEG encoding. Their budget-friendly solution from ATX Networks, the VersAtivePro transcoder, offers high-quality video at the minimal bit rates you’d expect. Content protection Viaccess-Orca has launched Voyage - TV Everywhere as a Service (TVaaS), a new cloud-based over-the-top (OTT)/TV Everywhere (TVE) offering designed to simplify multiscreen service delivery and speed up service launch times. Running on Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure, Voyage - TVaaS is integrated with CDN from Akamai as well as AWS CloudFront, with the option to add in other off-net and operator CDNs. The service is said to be able to handle the entire content preparation and distribution workflow from transcoding to packaging, encryption, publishing, recommendations, and delivery. Viaccess-Orca chief executive Paul Molinier said: “Through our secure, managed cloud TV service operators and content providers can dramatically reduce their CAPEX, increase scalability, and adapt to the changing demands of a marketplace in flux - which is important for staying competitive in today’s evolving industry.” File transfer At BVE, Aspera will showcase its portfolio of high-speed file transfer software and automation technology, including the new SaaS platform Aspera Files. Built on its FASP transport technology, Aspera Files enables an organisation to establish a branded web- based presence for exchanging and delivering any size file-based media or data. It can transfer between end users across separate organisations and combines multiple storage platforms. Aspera will also showcase the capabilities of the FASPStream transport for live and near-live data streaming. The FASP protocol achieves highly efficient bulk data transfer over IP networks, independent of distance and quality (round-trip latency and packet loss). FASPStream expands this capability to provide a reliable streaming protocol for in-order data delivery over Internet WANs. 38 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 110 FEBRUARY 2016
