Shared storage EditShare has joined the ASPEN Community, the coalition of industry manufacturers and end users who are adopting the ASPEN framework for building IP-based facilities. Justin Mazzola Paluska, chief technology officer, EditShare, said: “With the rapid uptake in core technology challenges we are facing, being part of a forward- thinking movement that eases the IP transition is very much welcomed. Having a unified standard for IP is crucial during this important transition stage.” ASPEN (Adaptive Sample Picture Encapsulation) is a standards-based, open format that moves uncompressed Ultra HD, 3G, HD, and SD signals over MPEG-2 transport streams (ISO/IEC 13818-1). It provides a framework for transporting separated video, audio, and metadata as independent IP multicast streams. The ASPEN Community was founded at IBC 2015. Other members include Evertz. AJA and Sony. Archive and storage CNBC Asia and CNBC Europe have installed FlashNet, SGL’s content management system. Both facilities are operated by Singapore-headquartered CNBC International, which is wholly owned by NBCUniversal. The installations at the headquarters of CNBC Asia in Singapore and CNBC Europe in London are identical. SGL FlashNet is fully integrated with Grass Valley’s Stratus production suite and manages a SpectraLogic T680 tape library. The CNBC Asia project is part of a major upgrade while the installation at CNBC Europe provides a new archive environment. CatDV 12 features an updated user experience along with native support for Square Box Systems’ recent Server 7. In addition, the system’s logging and ingest capabilities have been updated. CatDV features a 64-bit architecture and a playback engine that natively supports various broadcast and camera formats. Worker 7, the latest version of the company’s workflow automation product for CatDV MAM deployments, will also be on show alongside the CatDV Pegasus Server. In addition, Square Box Systems will launch CatDV Archive to Cloud and demo how it can archive media assets and associated metadata to Amazon S3. squarebox.com MAM TMD has expanded its management team with the appointment of Paul Wilkins as director of solutions and marketing. In this new role, Wilkins will be responsible for customer requirements capture, workflow definition, solutions sales and developing the company’s market proposition. He had previously been running his own consultancy, MJO Broadcast. “Systems that capture, enrich but most importantly intelligently utilise metadata will be at the forefront of the next generation of business management solutions,” he said. “I have seen TMD emerge as the clear leader in next generation automated workflows and metadata management, and I am thrilled to join the team at this exciting time in the company’s history.” Wilkins’ CV includes stints at Sony, Pinnacle, Avid, and Ascent Media.
