NEWS CAPTURE & PRODUCE VIDEO CARDS Cameras Ikegami has launched a new switchable 2K to 4K camera that is the first product in the Unicam XE camera series. Designed for use in either the studio or on location, the UHK-430 features three 2/3-inch 4K (3840x2160) CMOS sensors with 8 million pixels per sensor and RGB prism optics. Switchable between 4K and 2K formats, it can also output both 4K and 2K at the same time, with the 2K image being cut-out from the 4K picture. Two new Ikegami-designed 4K monitors have also been revealed. The HQLM-3120W is a 31.1-inch broadcast quality monitor that incorporates a 10-bit, LED backlit, UHD LCD panel with a contrast ratio of 1450:1. An alternative model that has a special panel supporting HDR is also in development. AJA Video Systems has released KONA IP, its first desktop video and audio I/O product for IP-based workflows. KONA IP is a PCIe capture card that works with AJA Control Room and Control Panel software and SDK tools along with leading third-party content creation applications. It supports SMPTE 2022-6 IP-encapsulated uncompressed 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI video, audio and VANC data, and via future firmware updates and codec package offerings, will also support J2K and VSF TR-04 and VSF TR-03. At the same time AJA has also expanded its line of portable Mini-Converters with the introduction of the Hi5-4K-Plus, a 3G-SDI to HDMI 2.0 converter, and the HDP3, a 3G-SDI to DVI-D converter with 1080p 60 support. The Hi5-4K-Plus supports frame rates up to 60p for 4K/UltraHD SDI to HDMI 2.0 conversion while the HDP3 is a miniature 3G-SDI to DVI-D scan converter for converting and scaling HD source footage. Finally, the company has launched FS4, a digital frame sync and universal up/down/cross converter that works with 4K, UltraHD, 2K, HD and SD. Batteries Fluid heads Switronix unveiled the Hypercore SLIM HC8 Lithium Ion battery packs at NAB. Equipped with an LED backlit runtime LCD, the packs are capable of handling high draw loads with Red and Arri cameras. The latest version comes in three models: the HC-8S V-mount battery, HC-8R V-mount (which communicates with Red cameras delivering the exact percentage of remaining capacity to the camera’s VF/LCD) and the HC-8AG 3-stud mount. All models charge on Switronix chargers, with the 8S and 8R also charging on IDX, Sony and Red chargers. “On any production, whether it be employing drones or a straightforward handheld application, knowing your battery runtime can be critical to getting that shot or missing it,” said Jose Flores, sales manager, Switronix. “With the addition of our backlit runtime LCD to our Hypercore Slim, users have a very clear graphical readout of runtime, helping them to make the most informed decisions when it comes to their power needs.” At NAB Miller Camera Support unveiled the arrowX Series of fluid heads, an evolution of the company’s Arrow Series that features a new sequential counterbalance design. CB PLUS improves on traditional counterbalancing - where a continuous counterbalance or a boost button would shift the whole range by four steps – by providing eight large counterbalance steps. The new feature is said to make the arrowX Series appropriate for ENG, EFP, Studio, field OB, or any other use where frequent and fast re-rigging is required. The range includes the arrowX3, arrowX5 and arrowX7. 12 | KITPLUS - THE TV-BAY MAGAZINE: ISSUE 113 MAY 2016
