SOFTWARE-DEFINED VIDEO Globo, the Brazilian commercial broadcaster, is using Elemental video processing as the core video-on-demand (VOD) and live processing engine for the Globo Play OTT service. “Video quality is critical to everything we do,” said Marcelo Souza, director, digital media technology for TV Globo. “For more than four years, Elemental software-based solutions have helped us meet exacting standards. Our new Globo Play service is a hit with viewers and is the type of success we want to repeat many times. To achieve this, we need a high-quality, scalable video infrastructure that adapts quickly.” PLAYOUT PlayBox Technology used NAB to introduce the CloudAir playout and streaming platform to the US market. “CloudAir allows a new television channel to be set up in matter of seconds,” said PlayBox Technology president Don Ash. “It is designed for anyone who wants to broadcast TV content, be it on a real-time 24/7 basis, a catch-up facility, the red button element of a reality show or a short-running series such as a sports event. It can also be deployed as the basis of a highly secure disaster recovery system.” Also on show were upgrades to AirBox Neo, TitleBox Neo, CaptureBox Neo and SafeBox Neo. These products can be combined on a modular basis to match any size of operation ranging from a regional channel-in-a-box station to a large-scale multi-channel broadcast network.
