PLUGINS Red Giant has released Red Giant Universe 2.0, an update of its GPU- accelerated plugins for editors and motion graphics artists. Included are four new and 29 updated plugins plus a new user experience that makes it easier to preview and apply effects. Red Giant Universe is also being added to the Volume Licensing Program, making it easier for large organisations to buy. This update also provides support for the Adobe Creative Cloud 2015.3. Universe works with Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Adobe After Effects CC, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Apple Motion, Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve and Sony Vegas. AQC VIRTUAL SETS Vidcheck has made additions and promotions within its sales team. Joseph Newcombe has been promoted from European sales manager to global sales manager while former Pro-Bel engineer David Kicks is promoted to sales manager for the USA and Canada. The new additions are Galo Puerta, who joins as sales manager for Europe, and Sarah Thomas, who will manage internal sales. Puerta was most recently a sports rights consultant. Time Inc is using Wochit, the cloud-based video creation platform, to create quick turnaround real-time, short-form video for the breaking and trending news output that it offers through its brand sites and social channels. Time Inc is expected to create more than 40,000 pieces of video content in 2016. “Partnering with Wochit gives us a powerful tool to further accelerate the volume of our real-time video productions, which we can integrate at the deepest levels across our sites and social channels,” said Brandon Fong, vice president, business development, Time Inc. Video. Crystal Vision has provided modular boards, including three of its Safire 3 chroma keyers, as part of a major upgrade of BBC Northern Ireland’s Studio B in Belfast. The kit was supplied through systems integrator Dega Broadcast Systems which carried out the upgrade. Studio B is primarily used for regional news and magazine programmes, including Newsline, the local news broadcast. As part of the continuing development of BBC regional output, the studio was upgraded to HD. Virtual studio and augmented reality capabilities were included in the Studio B upgrade, ensuring the most flexible use of the studio as well as giving a modern look to Newsline and other programmes. The entire technical infrastructure was replaced as part of the project, with lots of the underlying technology provided by Crystal Vision. A total of 106 modular boards were included in the contract, including a large number of 3Gb/s-ready HD distribution amplifiers, audio and video processors, and up and down converters.
