Welcome ISSUE 119: NOVEMBER 2016 kitplus.com Welcome. Aside from being the KitPlus Show issue this month we are packed with monitoring features encompassing audio, video, QC and test & measurement. In this new world of UHD and HDR then monitoring has never been more important and within this months offering you will find many useful expert opinions on how best to go about it! These days, it’s expected for camera viewfinders and monitors to have waveform, histogram and vectorscopes built in to give more accurate monitoring of exposure and colour than can be seen with zebra and false colour tools. Bringing any video imagery to life relies of getting the colour right so amongst everything inside do take a look at our creative trilogy on page 48 Rewinding 80 years from where we are today in an ultra high definition world with media delivered on every conceivable platform then you might be aware that the ‘official’ anniversary of the BBC launching the world’s first high definition (it was just 30 lines before then) television service was earlier this month. However the BBC actually started two months before this when they were asked to provide television for the RadiOlympia exhibition where the organisers were having trouble selling stands to exhibitors and needed an attractive gimmick to gain publicity! With only weeks to prepare the programmes were not billed in the Radio Times and with no outside broadcast of course it all came direct from Alexandra Palace. In a neat segue the KitPlus Show in November sold out of exhibitor space a good few weeks before the event having benefited from all manner of media to attract both exhibitors and visitors, something that RadiOlympia could only have dreamed of back then in August 1936! We will have a full report next month on our show which was the biggest industry event in the north of England for many years with many 100’s of visitors attending. If you are reading this in MediaCityUK then welcome, enjoy the day and of course this issue!
