Sarah Carrol I really enjoyed working on the BBC World Programme! Having not had the opportunity to work in the industry for such a big company, the experience and the BBC’s name on my CV means the world (bad pun) for someone who is at entry level. At university, I never had the opportunity to fully understand how to light sets properly so when coming here, I learned about different lights, big and small, and got to be involved in helping use a fill light to light a shot with the presenter. Everyone there was friendly and approachable, willing to answer your questions and not judge you too much if you pull out a cable or two. I’m really thankful that Graham (and Kitplus) gave me the opportunity to be involved in this. I really hope to get even more experience when I can from Kitplus and am eager to help out when I can. Stephen Rothwell On the 14th of November 2016 I was asked by Graham Reed to assist with lighting for the BBC Worldwide Debate filmed at the Emmanuel Centre in the heart of Westminster, London. For well over 10 years I’ve had a keen interest in film and TV production which ranges from screenwriting, to lighting, sound design and cinematography so getting to work with industry professionals for such a high caliber show was an opportunity I could not afford to miss. During the day I assisted with setting up lighting rigs, applying filters and preparing the stage for the show to be filmed later that evening. What I found most enjoyable about the day was the knowledge gained from observing and working with the crew. Graham started off the day by encouraging us to ask questions and help out wherever possible. This was a huge confidence boost knowing that we were being prompted to get involved with the workings of the show and crew. I was allowed to shadow the set-up of the equipment, observe how the lighting desk was used and understand how big of a part lighting played into this show not only to illuminate the panelists but also to eliminate shadows and create an even balance for the cameras.
