NEWS MOVE & DELIVER Video delivery infrastructure Encompass Digital Media is using a centralised Harmonic MediaGrid shared storage system for its media capture, management and distribution services. The platform- agnostic ContentStore 5840 system supports IP-based digital media workfl ows, has a petabyte of usable storage and 9200MB/s of IP bandwidth. It is being used for storing and editing content in resolutions up to 4k. “After putting the MediaGrid shared storage system through its paces and comparing its performance against competing solutions, we found that the Harmonic system won in every category and metric,” said Alan Young, chief technology offi cer at Encompass.” Personalisation Channel 4 plans to dynamically personalise the commercials that appear in the live streams of its All 4 digital service after signing up for Yospace’s ad insertion technology. The UK public service broadcaster will replace pre-scheduled blocks of inventory with tailored and targeted live video advertising by the end of the year. C4 head of digital innovation and partnerships Jonathan Lewis said: “We have leading audience insight capabilities and a database of more than 12 million viewers who can access a bespoke set of content and related experiences. This ethos is increasingly carried throughout our advertising, and the Yospace solution will enable us to deliver personalised ads to both individuals and specifi c groups seamlessly into the live stream.” Yospace’s technology provides in-stream ad replacement with transitions to and from advertising.
