All Of It Now deploys disguise gx 2c on Manic World Tour Posted: 30/04/2020
All Of It Now deploys disguise gx 2c on Halsey and rsquo;s Manic World Tour

American singer Halsey kicked off her Manic World Tour 2020 in Madrid in February supporting her just released studio album, also called Manic. The Manic World Tour spans 48 shows, and kicked off in Europe, with the next legs currently being planned for Asia and North America later this year. disguise gx 2c media servers were selected by All Of It Now to drive the show’s video and Notch IMAG real-time effects.

Numerous features of the disguise solutions came into play for the tour starting in pre-pro. “The show’s video design used a multi-layered frame, and the 3D workflow of disguise Designer allowed us to create parallel maps that placed content on the screen spatially without requiring specific renders for certain songs,” explains Danny Firpo of All of It Now, a disguise Rental Partner and Workflow Specialist based in San Francisco, who did the tour’s video programming with Cade Moore. “This gave us the creative flexibility to move content around the screen and explore different approaches for certain songs.

Everest VR: Journey to the Top of the World Edited, Graded and Stitched with DaVinci Resolve Studio Posted: 29/04/2020
Everest VR: Journey to the Top of the World Edited, Graded and Stitched with DaVinci Resolve Studio

Blackmagic Design today announced that the stunning new 8K 3D documentary “Everest VR: Journey to the Top of the World,” produced by Facebook’s Oculus, was edited, graded and stitched with DaVinci Resolve Studio and Fusion Studio.

In April of 2017, world famous climber Ueli Steck died while preparing for climbing both Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse without the use of bottled oxygen. Ueli’s close friends Jonathan Griffith and Sherpa Tenji attempted to finish off this project while award winning VR director and alpine photographer Griffith captured the entire story.

Over the course of three years, Griffith shot footage following Tenji and some of the world’s most accomplished climbers on some of the world’s most extreme locations. The series also includes footage that lets viewers witness what it is like to be engulfed in a Himalayan avalanche, cross a crevasse and staring deep in its depths, take a huge rock climbing fall, camp under the stars and soak in the view from the top of the world.

Leader Electronics Announces LT4611 SDI and IP Video and Audio Sync Generator Posted: 23/04/2020
Leader Electronics Announces LT4611 SDI and IP Video and Audio Sync Generator

Leader Electronics announces a new addition to its portfolio of broadcast test instruments and signal generators. Designed for use in both SDI and IP infrastructure, the LT4611 is a 1U full-rack-width generator producing analog video sync, audio word-clock signals and SMPTE ST 2059-2 profile.Based on the established and proven LT4610, it has a lower entry price point giving broadcasters the freedom to select the features they need as the industry progresses from SDI to an increasingly IP-dominated world.

As well as providing both a 10 GbE and 1GbE PTP interface, the LT4611 comes as standard with three independent synchronized analogue black and burst outputs. This overcomes the challenges of requiring both IP and SDI timing references. The LT4611 also supports a stay-in-sync function which maintains the phase when GPS reference is lost, plus a slow-lock function to reduce quality-of-service issues that occur when genlock is restored.

All LT4611 functions can be managed from the front panel or remotely. Up to 10 preset configurations can be saved within the generator. The LT4611 can be started with the same settings each time. Logo data and preset data can be written to and recalled from plug-in memory devices via a front-panel USB port.

Leader Electronics Announces Enhancements to ZEN Series Broadcast Test Instruments Posted: 08/04/2020
Leader Electronics Announces Enhancements to ZEN Series Broadcast Test Instruments

Leader Electronics announces the introduction of enhanced IP measurement for the LV5600 waveform monitor and its LV7600 equivalent rasterizer. The video over IP measurement function specified in SMPTE ST 2110 and SMPTE ST 2022-6 now provides nine extra tools:

1: Buffer measurement based on SMPTE ST 2110-21.2; Packet error and packet jitter insertion to the IP test signal generator; 3: Addition of lip-sync test pattern to the SER32 option; 4: IP to SDI conversion insertion of payload ID; 5: Simultaneous display of ports 1 and 2 packet jitter and PTP measurement; 6: Event log displayed in PTP time; 7: PTP grand master clock information is displayed from the PTP announcement message; 8: Graph data such as packet jitter and PTP are output as a CSV file; 9: Audio and ANC can also be displayed on the ST 2110 packet jitter graph. The toolset is available as a freely downloadable upgrade.

Enhanced measurement of SDI is being introduced for all five models in the ZEN series. The SDI measurement function specified in 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI now provides two new extra tools. First of these is a BT.709-compatible vector scope scale. UHDTV (ARIB STD-B66) and HLG color bars (ARIB STD-B67) contain BT.2020 and BT.709 colors. A scale has been added to allow the vector coordinates of BT.709 color bars to be checked easily. This feature is intended for use in BT.2020 and BT.709 video content production. Second of these two new features is enhanced support for EIA-708/608 close-caption data in 4K, with support for both 3G-SDI quad-link and 12G-SDI. This too is available as a freely downloadable upgrade.

Also new is plug-in module SER31 for the LV5600 and LV7600, providing enhanced measurement of 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI. This allows operators to check chroma levels beyond the BT.709 or DCI-P3 gamut. The new feature simplifies the task of identifying the reproduction errors which can occur when transmitting video content produced in BT.709, DCI-P3 or BT.2020 wide color gamut or when converting content from BT.2020 to narrow color gamut. With the colorimetry zone feature switched on, chroma signals exceeding the legal gamut are made immediately apparent using a false-color substitute.

Leader Supports Britains First Live 8K Sports Demonstration for BT Sport Posted: 20/03/2020
Leader Supports Britains First Live 8K Sports Demonstration for BT Sport

A Leader LV5900 HD/4K/8K multi-standard waveform monitor was chosen by BT Sport to monitor the signal feed from the UK's first public demonstration of live 8K sport. The UEFA Europa League match between Arsenal and Olympiacos (round of 32) on the 27th February was transmitted live by BT Sport and its partners using the LV5900 to check signal quality in a BT Sport 8K broadcast production truck located just outside the venue.

BT Sport Ultimate, launched in 2019, was the world’s first service to feature regular programming in high dynamic range as well as 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos. BT first demonstrated its 8K capability with an hour-long live relay of a Premiership Rugby Sevens match from Northampton, England, to the September 2019 Amsterdam IBC.

"We are pleased to have partnered with BT Sport at these two events," comments Leader Europe Business Development Manager Kevin Salvidge. "8K HDR is the pinnacle in terms of television production quality, creating a picture 16 times sharper than HD. Our LV5900 waveform monitor is a highly compact instrument designed for checking video and audio signal parameters at any point in the production and delivery chain, from studio right through to transmission and reception."

Creative Works London delivers immersive and spectacular visuals to Guns N Roses North American Tour using disguise and Unreal Posted: 05/03/2020
Creative Works London delivers immersive and spectacular visuals to Guns N and rsquo; Roses North American Tour using disguise and Unreal

When Guns N’ Roses’ successful ‘Not In This Lifetime’ tour switched to disguise for its North American leg, it opened up new creative possibilities to enhance the already visually spectacular rock show.

The tour wrapped last November with two shows at The Colosseum in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. The three-year world tour played 158 concerts selling more than 5 million tickets and grossing $584 million. The ‘Not In This Lifetime’ tour that started in 2016 marked the first time that Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan played together since 1993. Screenworks-NEP Live Events was the disguise rental partner for the tour.

Jeremy Leeor, Managing Director and Dan Potter, Creative Director, at disguise studio Creative Works London, coordinated the creation, execution and delivery of the Ghostrain and traditional show walk-in opening sequence using the new disguise and Unreal integration, currently going through Beta testing.

"A lot of what we created for the Guns’ tour visuals was built similarly to the way triple-A game assets are made using highly creative and flexible 3D tools like Cinema 4D, ZBrush, 3Ds Max and Substance Painter to create high-quality assets that can then be moved into real-time render engines like Unreal Engine,” explains Dan. “This is how we’ve always done it, and it makes a lot of our content stand out for its depth, texture and richness."

He points out that, “the rendering process on any project, in a conventional sense, presents many render engine and creative compositing options, and is central to how we achieve the diverse range of visual styles in our work. With the introduction of real-time render engines, you’re shifting the focal points of stages when you are developing a look to different points in the project timeline. This can be quite liberating if you’re working on something that plays to the strengths of the look you want to achieve and using the right tools to do it."

AMS Neve Helps Parasite Deliver Exceptional Sound Quality Posted: 26/02/2020
AMS Neve Helps Parasite Deliver Exceptional Sound Quality

South Korean film facility Live Tone Studios is celebrating the success of Parasite, the comedy satire directed by Bong Joon-ho that made Academy Awards® history in February by becoming the first foreign language film to win an Oscar® for Best Picture.

Audio post production for this remarkable movie, which also picked up three other Oscars® for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film, was carried out at the facility using one of its two large format AMS Neve DFC 3D film consoles. A 48-channel Neve Genesys console also played its part as this was used to record and monitor Additional Dialogue Replacement (ADR).

Ralph Tae-Young Choi is CEO, Sound Supervisor and Re-recording mixer at Live Tone Studios, a facility he helped establish in 1997, says: “The sound of Parasite was so detailed and emotional that it needed the console automation to operate very efficiently and simply. This is where the Neve DFC 3D really came into its own. I mix all of my movie sound with an AMS Neve DFC 3D console because it has a much more powerful audio engine and better audio quality than other consoles or DAWs. For a mixer to be intuitive and efficient, you need the console to be reliable and the AMS Neve DFC 3D excels at that.”
