As the leading global event in the broadcasting and electronic media world, delegates and speakers in the IBC conference demand the highest quality for presentations and demonstrations. This year, each of the conference theatres was equipped with state of the art of computer projection including networked connectivity from Adder Technology.
For maximum image quality, the computer hosting the Powerpoint and video playout for each room was located next to the projector. This also allowed the production manager to take control if necessary. But the speakers on the podium needed simple and intuitive control of their own presentations, without having to learn anything new.
The solution chosen by IBC was to provide a keyboard, mouse and video display on the podium, linked to the computer in the projection room. To provide seamless, pixel perfect and zero latency connectivity for this remote user interface IBC used the AdderLink Infinity IP extender from Adder Technology.
Unlike conventional KVM extenders, the AdderLink Infinity uses sophisticated processing which places keystrokes, mouse moves and visually lossless video encoding into an IP stream which can be routed over conventional ethernet. Dedicated processing power ensures that the encoding and decoding are performed with effective zero latency. It means that signals can be routed between the display and the computer over relatively long distances, while still ensuring that the speaker at the podium has instant response, and a display that is a perfectly accurate rendition of the original.
We are aware that we were only using a fraction of the capability of the AdderLink Infinity, in a point to point application like this, said Phil White, Director of Technology for IBC. For us, though, it was the perfect solution to a practical need. It meant we could move our conference sessions on seamlessly, knowing that the speakers would have no problems with managing their presentations. When the speakers are some of the leading names in broadcasting from around the world, that is really important.
