Archion Strengthens Commitment to Canadian Creative Storage Market with Appointment of UpMarket

Date: 01/10/2015

Archion, a global leader in providing networked storage solutions for post production, finishing and related workflows, has appointed UpMarket Inc., headquartered in Toronto, Canada, as its Canadian manufacturer's representative.  Founded in 2008, UpMarket's three founding partners each have more than 25 years of experience in the convergence of IT and broadcast, post production, imaging and computer graphics.

"My personal experience with shared production storage dates back almost 20 years to building what were then pioneering SAN network storage solutions with FibreChannel and SSA technologies and custom software," said Rein Taul, founder and managing partner of UpMarket.  "Today, we are continually engaged with the key end users who need high performance and functionality, and we see these needs not only continuing, but growing.  While Canada is a relatively small market, our creative industries really 'punch above their weight' both in the artistry of their work and their ability to innovate their processes.

"Archion appeals to us for its single vendor elegance, ease of use, performance and innovation in shared storage solutions," he added.  "We feel Archion's EditStor shared storage platform is the technology and price leader and deserves to be the market share leader."

Archion has proudly served the Canadian creative production market for nearly a decade.  End user customers over the years include Tattersal Sound and Picture, Bell Media, Great Pacific TV, SuperChannel/Allarco Entertainment and more.  Long-term reseller relationships include Deltech Communications and Fusion Cine, which was recently appointed RED Camera's exclusive Canadian distributor.

"We highly value our relationship with Archion and have great respect for their shared storage solutions and customer support," said Mark Todorovic, post division manager at Fusion Cine.  "At the same time, I have known Rein and his partners for many years and have always been impressed with their industry knowledge and commitment to their customers."  Archion made the right decision when they decided to add UpMarket to their growing Canadian family."

"We are very excited to partner with UpMarket and Rein's very experienced team in the Canadian market," said Dan Stern, executive vice president of sales and business development for Archion.  "With its years of workflow and local market knowledge, UpMarket's approach goes far beyond traditional rep firms and is strongly aligned with Archion's strategy and core values -- experience, technology, local presence and listening carefully to our customers to give them the products they want at prices they can afford.

"We are strongly committed the the Canadian market," he added, "including our users, authorized resellers and now UpMarket."

UpMarket will be handling Archion's complete line of shared storage solutions, including EditStor EO, EditStor Omni and Collaborate.

4K Gaining Interest
Taul noted that 4K production and post production is on everyone's mind in Canada.

"Archion's EditStor Omni sets the standard for ultra-fast shared collaborative storage and represents a sort of future-proofing as system administrators evaluate investments," he said.  "I've even had conversations where 4K capability is seen as the benchmark, but the intended deployment is to use that extra bandwidth to host more clients."

EditStor: Making Media Sharing Easy and Accessible
Archions EditStor platform, consisting of Omni, EO and ES, enhances media sharing for creative professionals that work with Adobe Creative Cloud, Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools (with the industrys most transparent Avid Project sharing), Apple Final Cut Pro X, Black Magic Resolve and Autodesk Smoke and Flame.  Easy to set up, manage and scale, each system mounts the workspaces in the protocol of choice to ensure the greatest compatibility and performance.  All of this comes at a very competitive price-performance ratio.

EditStor Omni
EditStor Omni is the latest and the most powerful addition to the EditStor family of Ethernet-based storage systems - delivering 4000 MB/sec in a single chassis.  Designed to handle the most bandwidth-intensive workflows and meet the growing need for media network solutions that can handle multiple 4K, 6K and soon-to-come 8K workflows, Omni's advanced throughput engine ensures constant data flow for all content creation applications.  EditStor Omni also continues to extend its Ethernet-based protocols from gigE and 10gigE to include 40gigE and has the power to extend to future protocols, workflows and cloud-based systems.

With its significant advantage in price-performance, Omni eliminates the need by creative professionals for expensive and complicated SAN solutions.  Omni, for example, delivers tremendous performance without the need for multiple servers required to handle metadata and file system.  It also surpasses the limitations of other SAN file systems on the market, such as unlimited dynamic volume expansion and simplified expansion.

Collaborate
This uniquely designed high-performance appliance, connected to Archion's EditStor shared storage system, is designed to work as an efficient and secure localized version of Creative Cloud while also serving as a platform for Adobe project sharing, media asset management and archive.

About UpMarket
With its broad product line, UpMarket represents many complimentary technologies and manages the same channel and end user base that are ideal for Archion's networked storage products.  It manages, for example, the NVIDA Quadro GPU business for PNY in Canada; (found in almost every non-Apple post production computer) and represents direct-attach storage solutions aimed at creative users as well as media asset management, signal routing and automation/control solutions. www.up-market.ca

About Archion Technologies
Archion, based in Burbank, CA, is a leading provider of intelligent networked storage solutions specifically designed for post-production and graphic professionals working in the broadcast, production, corporate, education, government, house of worship and sports industries.  Founded by a team of post-production, technology and entertainment industry professionals 16 years ago, Archion set out to create a new standard of data protection and performance for those creating video, audio and graphical content.  Since then, Archions high-performance storage technology has been critical to the success of thousands of TV and feature film projects and is prominently used in Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Avid and Pro Tools environments. www.archion.com

Cobalt Digital Targets Need for Multiple Video Feeds with openGear 9905 MPx Multi-Channel Processor Posted: 12/10/2021
Cobalt and reg; Digital Targets Need for Multiple Video Feeds with openGear and reg; 9905 MPx Multi-Channel Processor

Cobalt® Digital, an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of award-winning edge devices for live video production and master control, and a founding partner in the openGear® initiative, has answered the need for handling and processing multiple video feeds with its 9905-MPx multi-channel processor. The 9905-MPx is a next-generation advanced scaler/frame openGear synchronizer developed in direct response to customer needs for a single module that supports four independent signal paths. The card was highlighted during a press briefing held virtually on October 6th and hosted by Suzana Brady, Cobalt’s SVP Worldwide Sales & Marketing, who noted that the 9905-MPx was developed in response to customer requests for increased density, unprecedented multi-input support, and enhanced flexibility. The event also featured presentations by Dr. Ciro Noronha, EVP of Engineering, and Ryan Wallenberg, VP of Engineering. The 9905-MPx, an audio/video processor for baseband digital signals, is capable of handling up to four independent 3G signals in a single, dense, cost-effective package that provides all common broadcast processing functions without any quality compromises. The card includes individual up/down/cross conversion scalers that are specifically designed for broadcast video formats, with full ARC control suitable for conversions to/from 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. The multi-path design offers discrete AES and MADI audio embedding/routing/mixing/de-embedding to any of the four processing paths. Standard 3D LUT features and available color correction accommodate SDR and HDR processing for downstream HDR systems, on a per-channel basis. The card also supports per-channel logo insertion, as well as ancillary data insertion/extraction.
