Perfectly in sync: Atomos and Timecode Systems reveal first generation of a new, integrated product range at Inter BEE 2019

Take a global leader in recorder-monitors and add to it the clout of a powerful wireless sync platform and you get boundless opportunities for multicamera content creation of every budget and genre. The announcement of the acquisition of Timecode Systems by Atomos a few weeks ago came with a bold promise of a new, more democratic era for multicamera video production. And at this week’s Inter BEE exhibition in Japan, the newly joined companies are showing they’re already making significant headway on delivering this vision.

For InterBEE 2019, Atomos is putting the AtomX SYNC accessory for the Ninja V centre stage. It’s the first product from the recorder-monitor leaders to include fully integrated Timecode Systems sync power. This adds advanced wireless sync and remote device control features to the Ninja V’s feature set. Attaching the module locks the connected camera into a robust, frame-accurate sync with other Ninja Vs, and also any other sound and video devices, and even compatible smartphone camera apps using Timecode Systems products.

Atomos releases Sumo 19 switching upgrade at Inter BEE 2019 show Posted: 14/11/2019
Atomos releases Sumo 19 switching upgrade at Inter BEE 2019 show

At the Inter BEE show in Tokyo this week Atomos will make multi-camera switching and recording even easier with the release of a live asynchronous switching and quad ISO recording update for the Sumo 19 HDR monitor/recorder/switcher. AtomOS 9.2 for Sumo 19 turns it into the simplest way to record and switch multi-camera events, being intuitive, extremely portable and highly cost-effective.

Up to five 1080p60 streams can be recorded simultaneously - four separate ISOs and the program out to the same SSD drive in Apple ProRes® or Avid DNx formats. This can now be done without the need to synchronize the cameras together using genlock. The channels can be switched in real-time at the touch of the screen and the resulting switched output recorded to the separate fifth channel, as well as output on either HDMI or HD-SDI. Each switch also signals a metadata cut/edit point that the Sumo 19 writes to the disk as an XML file. The ISOs can subsequently brought directly into your NLE’s timeline* with the edits already in place, all ready for fine tuning or re-editing. You can even configure the touchscreen to respond differently to single and double taps, giving the choice between a hard cut or a dissolve being written into the XML file. This will in turn tell the NLE which transition type it should use.

Atomos Acquisition of Timecode Systems Makes Effortless Collaborative Filmmaking an On-Set Reality Posted: 29/10/2019
Atomos Acquisition of Timecode Systems Makes Effortless Collaborative Filmmaking an On-Set Reality

Timecode Systems today announces an exciting new chapter for the company as part of Atomos. Together, the companies are building tightly integrated multicamera workflow solutions that unify all recording devices on set, allowing these devices to work together more cohesively. This allows production teams to experience, for the first time, the full impact of truly collaborative video and audio content creation across all types of program making.

With demand for video bigger than ever, content creators are using more separate devices to add angles and be creative. But they are limited by the time it takes to edit, align, and finish videos that combine multiple sources of video and audio, especially when using prosumer and consumer devices to film alongside professional cameras.

Jeromy Young, CEO and founder of Atomos said:
"Right now, this disconnect between recording devices is holding back multicamera content creation. To truly shoot collaboratively, everything needs to work in perfect, frame-accurate sync — there has to be a robust wireless connection. The Timecode Systems RF protocol is this bulletproof link. Working together, we now have the glue to create a truly connected multicamera solution."

Timecode Systems, a world leader in developing wireless sync technology, burst onto the market in 2012, receiving a prestigious IABM award for innovation before even shipping its first product. The company launched the first-ever Wi-Fi-enabled digislate, created the only timecode sync solution for GoPro® cameras, and pioneered and patented a timecode-over-Bluetooth® timing protocol. The acquisition positions Timecode Systems and Atomos to accelerate this appetite for innovation further and transform content-creation workflows.
